    forbidden chalice.

been flirting with the idea of getting a tiny lil "mwY" tattooed near the side of my wrist ever since seeing them. theyve been a huge inspiration to me for a few years now, especially in my writing, and seeing them in boston for the last time has really solidified their impact on me in a way that treasure surfacing out of water would. i already have one music tattoo on that arm (Futures' phone booth) so why not a second?

Well I’m an absolute puddle. Just finished the final mewithoutYou show and didn’t think it would hit like that.

I can’t imagine being the person I became without this band existing. I love who I am because of this band.

I found them when they opened Underoath’s “farewell.” The first song I heard was The Fox, The Crow, and The Cookie and I was like what the fuck is this. Then I heard Fox’s Dream and C-Minor and was fully hooked.

I think the most common reaction to hearing mewithoutyou for the first time is "what the fuck is this" but also "I must hear more."

Happened to me for sure. Took me a few listens of random songs to go from “what IS this?” to “what is THIS?”

I don't care about your band.

Still processing my emotions from the farewell shows. Night one was amazing not least because I got to see Kevin Devine perform with them and he's my favorite artist. But night two was something else. It was the best crowd I have ever been in - everyone sang SO loudly and perfectly on-time, which is incomprehensible given how complex mwY songs are. I cried two or three songs in, just because the energy radiating from the crowd was so moving. The biggest bummer is that I have the feeling that I get sometimes with really special bands: I see them (even if it's for the 4th and 5th time like these shows were for me) and I fall completely into them, wish I could see them again immediately (but I settle for knowing "next time" is probably on a far out horizon). Only this time, of course, there's pretty much no horizon.

Saturday night was a lot. Moved to tears in many moments. There were multiple times where I could just feel the love of the crowd all around. Maybe the best pit I've ever been involved in? I jumped around like crazy in the pit when Scogin came out, crowd-surfed in the beginning to Paper Hanger, lost my phone when I did that and gratefully found it at the end of the night perfectly intact. [It was pretty nice to not have a screen to potentially distract from the night. Plus I met an awesome group at the bar afterwards and they sent me 100+ shots, haha]

    Those are just my cliff-notes.

I can't really do justice by putting it in words, but it was truly a beautiful and meaningful experience to be there.

definitely gonna echo the sentiment on how my my introduction to the band was a lot of initial confusion and wonder. i think i said it best when i posted 15 album reviews for an AOTY post on tumblr back when Pale Horses came out

“When you’re met with the soundscape that this record provides, it’s often times difficult to make out what is happening. mewithoutYou brings a sound that interchanges hypnosis and destruction. When you feel a calm, prepare for the turmoil of the band to let loose.”

absolutely insane to me, btw, that i ranked it 13th for that year. its a top 5, maybe even 3, record of all time for me now

I'm a much more recent fan than most. One of my best friend's had been convincing me to get into them over the years, and early on it just never clicked with me for some reason. A few years back, I gave them another chance and I started to enjoy their stuff a bit. Finally I wound up seeing them open for Thrice a couple of years ago, and things changed. Their energy in that performance was so captivating. I went back after that and starting getting into the bulk of their discography. Eventually I became hooked. I can't say I'm the best with all of the song titles and lyrics still, but I was enough of a fan that I had to see them on this final tour. I'm in northern NJ just outside of NYC so ideally I would've gone to either the Manhattan or Brooklyn shows, but I was just getting over COVID at that point and didn't want to put anyone else at risk. Fortunately, a couple more weeks went by, I was fully healed, and I was able to find a resale ticket for Saturday that was reasonable enough in my eyes, so I made the drive down and oh man...it was absolutely worth it! From the moment "Bullet to Binary" kicked in with "LET US DIE! LET US DIE!" I knew it was going to be a special night. Between the performance from the band and just the overall atmosphere in the crowd, it was such an incredible event to be at. I think the two parts I may have lost it at the most were when Josh came out for "Memphis.." and then the second encore of "All Circles" and "In a Sweater Poorly Knit" complete with balloons and family and friends on stage. What a moment! I love how this show didn't feel like an ending to the band, but rather a celebration of their music and connection to their fans. I'm so glad to have to have been able to witness this, and can't wait to continue listening to this band for years to come now (haven't stopped since Saturday night)

Sorry for the really long post. TL;DR: I'm not as much of a long time fan as many fans in here, but I still had the best night ever at the show on Saturday!

Unoriginal Vinyl posted something on their Instagram with Aaron a few months ago. At least I think that's who it was. I'm guessing they're involved in some way. It's nice to have at least one more thing to look forward to.

"Later this year" is all it says on the preorder page. I imagine everything not related to the farewell tour/final two shows was put on the backburner, let alone assuming there haven't been any delays or hiccups in getting the vinyl pressed and other elements printed.

Yep! That's exactly who it was

Someone on Reddit offhandedly mentioned it would be cool if they did a "Mike's Picks" live series a la the Grateful Dead and it's all I've been able to think about since reading that post
