Southampton are making a dramatic late run for the top 5...

    Derby County 2007-08: 11 points.
    Sunderland 2005-06: 15 points.
    Sheffield United 2023-24: 16 points.
    Huddersfield Town 2018-19: 16 points.
    Aston Villa 2015-16: 17 points.

    It's all hell.

They should sack Martin immediately. He's clearly going for the Kompany bounce of landing a team wanting someone to come in and play attractive football at a high level despite what happens to Southampton. They are admittedly not good enough for the league but they need someone who can be more pragmatic and try and actually earn some points.

would be cool if Atletico Madrid snatch the title away from Barca and Real Madrid

Atleti are on an 11 game winning streak all comps, wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the longest active streak in Europe

Lost in the fervor of today’s game was the fact that United were denied an absolute stonewall penalty from a Dias challenge on Hojlund. Dias has his whole leg hooked in front of and around Hojlund, makes absolutely no contact with the ball, and crickets. When asked on air if it was a oenalty Mike Dean, former ref, said “not in a game like this”

Statement from the league says it was reviewed and deemed normal contact. What are we doing here?

Didn’t the Southampton manager walk into the locker room with like 4 minutes of stoppage time left before the half? Seemed like he just quit lol

Really want to give a shoutout to a guy who has been absolutely torn to shreds and universally maligned, one Harry Maguire. I think he’s far from a perfect CB and still has limitations to his game, but he was a rock yesterday and this central center back role is tailor made for him. Let’s him really push up high and hard on the striker and engage physically which are major strengths of his game, and the extra guy in the back mitigates the risk of him getting turned and burned. His aggressiveness out of the back line coupled with Ugarte roaming around really contributes a lot to breaking up central build up play. Could genuinely see a mini renaissance for Maguire here and all of a sudden think he might go from a guy who was a sure fire summer sale to being one of the first names on the team sheet.

Had a pretty decent FPL week, amongst top scorer in all my leagues, green arrows everywhere.

Yet still out of the Cup at the first time of asking (bye last week) to a guy randomly scoring 79 points.

Always stings getting knocked out of the cup early. I've barely got through so need to raise my game!

There was 12 points before captaincy between Salah, Palmer, Saka and Haaland this week - one of those weeks.

I was trying to describe myself to someone

His final post-match comments were staggering. I think they could have sacked him for those alone. Basically completely distanced himself from the squad and implied that they're too poor overall for this league. Had a real air of "not my fault".

This really leans into there being a serious professionalism issue with certainly Rashford and maybe generally at Man United. Haven't we seen very similar things from the last two managers as well?

There was a similarly nonsensical one in Forest Villa as well. I get that they're trying to not re-ref every single thing, but when you have people committing pretty obvious (if unremarkable) fouls in the box and you don't at least get the ref to check he's happy with his original decision, then it leaves a big old question mark about what the purpose actually is.

Similarly in the last set of fixtures when someone got a second yellow because they got trodden on. VAR isn't allowed to change yellow cards, for some utterly arbitrary reason...

Had an 8 hr drive back from Tennessee yesterday, got home and managed to avoid spoilers so I figured I’d watch the Brighton replay before bed great move lol. Our CB situation sucks so much right now and dunk is progressing towards coach with each day.

I doubt Southampton have what would be a miraculous turnaround. The lack of quality in their squad is there for all to see. Can they attract good enough signings in their position in January? I doubt it.

Wolves have Man United (H), Spurs (A), Forest (H), Newcastle (A), Chelsea (A), Arsenal (H), Villa (H), Liverpool (A) and Bournemouth (A) in what is a 9 game horror run. I just can't see them picking up enough momentum with those fixtures, regardless of who takes over.

Ipswich, alongside Palace and Everton, will be in the mix right until the very end imo.
