I actually remember this, too, haha.

 

Very vividly remembering the first ever game I ever watch, international or not, was Italy v Sweden at the 04 Euros. Was a bored 10 y/o on summer vacation and landed on the game after exhausting every other TV channel. The intensity of that game immediately hooked me and that miraculous acrobatic finish from Zlatan sold me on the sport as a lifelong fan.

20 years ago in the US football coverage was almost non existent so with Fox Soccer Channel consistently showing Manchester United replays and them being the only team whose games were broadcast every week consistently my decision on who to support was made for me.

Zlatan remained my favorite non United player through all those years and it was such a pleasure to eventually watch him play for the club. Never would’ve thought after watching him at that Euros that I would be watching him almost two decades later.

 

I still think about that Gascoigne chance from time to time. Would have been the golden goal.

 

I remember Euro 2000 was pay per view in the US where you had to buy each game individually and it was crazy expensive.

I vaguely remember USA 94. mostly sitting around my grandads sitting room decked out in Ireland flags and regalia with my cousins.

 

First tournament I remember was 96 Euro. Was living in England at the time.

The earliest game I remember watching was West Germany/Argentina in the 90 World Cup final, but that’s because my dad recorded it on vhs. I rewatched the game a bunch, but don’t remember watching it live. The first one I remember watching live was Brazil/Italy in the final when Baggio skied the penalty over. I’ve watched every World Cup pretty religiously since.

 

always have to respect Italy’s philosophy of either crashing out early/not qualifying or winning the whole thing
