TAA as a CM is a ridiculous call. I understand Bellingham has been playing in a free role at Madrid all year, but for the sake of the squad balance Southgate should really have Bellingham playing a more disciplined role alongside Rice. That way you can play Foden centrally in front of those two and have Gordon on the left giving you two direct wingers offering you proper width.

I’ll just say for England’s sake let’s hope 90 minutes of midfield runners absolutely skipping past Trent while Jude goes full marauding maverick mode and Rice struggles to play as a one man midfield will be enough of a failed experiment for Gareth to swallow his pride and fix his mistake.

Or it miraculously goes perfectly to plan and we’re both stuck here with egg on our face because football can be like that sometimes.

I think Trent in midfield is a maverick call but if he's expecting Serbia to sit back, maybe having someone who can ping balls around with ease is a big benefit
