I absolutely hate stats that don't account for games played. Comparing players from different leagues is already very iffy generally but this way it's even more useless.

 

10 minutes into the Gold cup and a CONCACAF ref has already missed a clear penalty call and let play continue after a Mexico play had a horrible collision with the Trinidad keeper all in the same play. Doesn't look good for Lozano.

To make it more clear (as if it wasn't before...): What makes you so sure Argentina would have won the WC 2014 if di Maria would have been fit? Saying Argentina would have so many titles if one player would have taken part in the final is a stupid take no matter how you twist it. Would the possibility increase if he took part? Probably. But that's all.

 

Argentina were on top most of that final. Higuain has a slightly better day and they ran riot. One more player of di Maria’s caliber would have undoubtedly made a difference. Until it was brought up tonight on the timeline, I’d even forgotten he didn’t play in the final.It’s always going to be a huge What If of his career and Messi’s by association. It takes nothing away from Germany’s win to speculate what might have happened had one team had a stronger line-up. Speculation is fun. It’s what makes sports discussion sports discussion half of the time. I like speculating. I like sharing fun facts and arguments people are making that are interesting. The fact you don’t enjoy partaking in such discussions doesn’t give you the right to be a dick about it.
