The idea about such an European Super League is actually not new. They were planning this in the 90s already. It never happened because the big teams got more CL money and the CL spots for the top leagues have increased permanently since then.

And about your last point: I think at least in Germany the clubs would never be able to join such a League because fortunately the fans still run the clubs here in the end. You can bet that there is no majority of the members of Bayern or Dortmund that would allow this to happen.

 

So whats the final scoreline between City and Southampton going to be?

TBH, it's hard to see anything happening. I remember when the Etihad deals were first announced. I think it was the shirt sponsorship and it came in at £40m (forget the length of time) and it was massively higher than anyone else was getting for shirt deals at the time.
