I mean, he was holding his shoulder after that one, not his face. Don't think VAR even looked at it.

 

If it was elbow to face (and he was going late deliberately), then that was some seriously poor officiating, because that is a red all day long.

 

I cannot wait until I don’t have to watch Partey play for us.

 

Are we talking about the foul on Jesus? That looked more unfortunate than violent. Strong challenge for sure but he was going for the ball and he didn’t lift his arm/elbow into Jesus’ face.

 

Sold Schar in fantasy this week. Phew.

Been a good performance by Arsenal here. We're not that good technically and they've not let it turn into a more physical or athletic battle. Just held us at arm's length for most of the game.

You can see we're still a way off the top teams. We don't have anyone who can stack up to Odegaard or Saka.

 

Newcastle had their chances and either missed or Ramsdale made a huge save. Arsenal buried their earlier chance and got a fortunate on-goal (would’ve been a goal if Schar didn’t get a boot on it anyways). I don’t think Newcastle lost because they played frustrated. They just weren’t good enough today.

 

I don't think the main contact is with his face. Think that angle might be making it look a lot worse than it was. See if they have a look at it in the studio afterwards.

 

Newcastle are gonna be scary next season.

 

If we get CL I think we'll probably be a bit crap tbh. Too much too soon. Our squad is not deep. Even Europa is going to stretch us if we don't do some brilliant recruitment.

 

Was the starting lineup considered weird to Newcastle fans? I don’t watch every game but the attacking front wasn’t what I expected to see when the game started. Felt like that decision played a part in not being able to convert on one of the scoring chances they had.

 

Pretty normal line up for us recently I think. Only slight variance was that Wilson and Isaak both started. Who were you expecting to see/not see?

 

Almiron but I know he didn’t start against Spurs either. So I’m guessing he just fell out of the lineup?

He had an injury around the World Cup I think and was out for a little while. Unsure if he's had a repeat injury or struggled to get back match fit or something.

Schar has been an aggro little bastard this half...

 

Can't argue with that today really. Arsenal were just better. Felt a bit like the league cup final, where we just weren't allowed to get a proper grip on the game. Think there's still quite a big gulf between us and the elite teams.

It's becoming a pretty spicy fixture this one though. I think that's three in a row which have been a bit "spirited".

This. I don't think he's had much of a run of games this year. Quick look suggests he's played 4 games in a row at most.

 

Not able to watch, but fuck it must be so demoralising for Maguire to know he’s 5th choice at centre back.
