That one was definitely onside at least. Shocking defending from City there.

    hmmm

City's organisation in the build up to the second goal was hilarious.

City clearly still thrown off by the terrible decision on Bruno’s goal and we capitalize

  7. If I’m still stunned by that decision I imagine the City players are at a complete loss mentally lo

    It's all hell.

The happiest I've ever been for a United win (If they hold on!)

City have been awful today. Barely stringing passes together at times.

  14. City we’re bad and yet it took one of the worst decisions I’ve ever seen to turn things on for United lol

70% possession. Outshot. Haaland didn’t fix everything.

Bruno clearly onside dont know what everybodys going on about

  18. PGMOL saying the defenders run weren’t affected….ok what about Ederson?? He had to worry about both players. It clearly affects his defense of the attack.

Any defender in that position is being affected by the attacker. Walker gets tighter to Fernandes if Rashford isn't there. That has a knock-on effect of the recovery lines of the other defenders, not to even mention Ederson.

    It's an awful decision.

The only thing I can think of, is none of the City defenders ran towards the ball, even Akanji who was following didn’t run towards the ball. I don’t agree but I guarantee if nothing else changed and Akanji ran into the back of Rashford it would have been given offside. Scandalous decision, really.

  22. This is an example of the whistle needing to be blown when the pass is clearly to an offside player. The official’s flag went up immediately. If they had blown the whistle at that point no one would’ve been mad.

What should have happened is Akanji playing to the whistle, right?

It's always been a problem with the offside rule ever since they liberalised it in the 90s. Maybe they don't want defences to play aggressive offside traps like Sacchi's Milan or Michels' Netherlands did but the interpretation of whether an attacker is active/interfering has been a problem for a couple of decades now.

I think an attacker in an offside position is always in some way occupying a defender if a ball gets played in behind. They'll probably never go back to the simpler way of calling it but it's always going to be a problem like this. Everyone knows that's a bad decision but how is an assistant referee expected to judge quickly and precisely how a defender is being affected? As it was, he actually called it right and VAR somehow didn't.

Yeah I don’t blame the linesman. But that’s a clear decision VAR should be making. They have the angles and the oversight to judge who is and isn’t interfering with play.
