i was trying to think of how’d we’d run this with our first choice, too. Zardes and Dike have great chemistry

 

Canada are much better than last couple WCQ cycles. Think they have a decent chance of being top 4.

I also think Sargent could fill in that Zardes spot too. But playing two up top probably means benching one of Adams/Mckennie.

 

I think we’ll have Sargent, Jozy, and Dike battling for the starting spot alongside Pulisic if we make this formation shift permanent.

McKennie is the first name on the team sheet, haha. I think you could run both with the right holding mid between them… though we don’t have that Beckerman-type destroyer at the moment, do we?

We actually have the problem of too much talent for once. That’s pretty neat.

 

Yeah that holding mid position is a question for sure. I could see Sands stepping in but honestly I think Adams does enough of a job when he plays deep for Leipzig. Very rare problem having all this depth. Before Berhalter stepped in it seemed like we were trotting out the same line up of aging, worn-out players. I was exhausted seeing the likes of Jermain Jones and Kyle Beckerman over and over again.

I know this tournament is far from over but I'm already thinking WC2022 and I hope we still have these issues of deciding who is best for what position in whatever formation we go with.

 

Trying to field a two-striker setup with the first team inevitably becomes a situation where you're kicking the can down the road in terms of which area of the field you have to hamstring to make it work.

A Zardes or Siebetcheau on the field at the expense of a Reyna or Adams? No thanks.
Shoehorning Pulisic up top makes the most sense, and that worked great with a young Donovan, but only because that outside spot was being filled by stalwarts like Earnie Stewart, DMB, (later on Clint, etc.)

This pool? With Berhalter picking the lineups? We'd end up with Lletget or Arriola on the field.

 

That being said, any lineup (in any formation) we field today is miles ahead of giving Robbie Findley multiple starts in a World Cup. So that's nice.

 

Dwight McNeil? Yes, please. Very under-rated imo.

 

No, I am not affected fortunately and also no one I know. I am living in Berlin and this region has the exact opposite problems when it comes to rain. It's usually way too dry here.

 

Just seen that too, that would be a great signing. What sort of cost do you think he'd go for? Could see the price tag being £30- 40 million, but I'm not sure Everton would be willing to pay that.

 

At 21 years old, Burnley would be doing poorly if they weren't insisting on a figure around that range.

 

Phil Kirkbride is usually tier 1 for us. He loves shooting down a rumour when it's just a rumour. Like yourself, I think a figure of £30m would be more realistic and I can see us paying up given our lack of wide options.

 

This is a very good purchase I think.
