Watching the Bayern game...ref missed a penalty. Next stoppage the replay official buzzed down and told the ref on the field it was penalty. He awarded it. Gave the defender a yellow. Bayern hit the penalty.

First time I've seen the new rule in action and it worked perfectly. It was a clear penalty.

 

It was a very soft penalty and imho shouldnt have been overruled. But the execution of the VAR in the BL (and supercup) is already way better than in the Confed Cup.

 

Leverkusen has been fun to watch this second half.

You really think this was a clear penalty? I mean I am not moaning at the decision but if this happened against my team I would be furious. This is as soft as it gets. The VAR rule says that only clear wrong decisions should be overturned and this was obviously not one .

But the general execution of the VAR, especially the time it takes and the clear gestures of the ref, are exactly how it should be. After the Confed Cup I was a little afraid, but I also was certain that the Bundesliga refs would be well trained to use it. And as of now it shows. I still could live without it but if it is always executed like that it won't affect the flow of the game and the few clear wrong decision that will happen during the season will most likely be overturned.
