I'm sometimes still not sure that 7-1 game ever took place.

 

So why are there no refs on the goal line in the Copa like the Euro have? That could seems like that could have made all the difference in the process of determining if the goal was legit or not.

 

The question is: did they use technology or not? I've also read that apparently they were gonna call it off but they had to revert back to the original call because they weren't supposed to be using technology?
If they were using technology, the officials aren't needed. But if they weren't, clearly they would've called it off.

 

That makes tons of sense in the process but the Copa has no goal line refs or at least I didn't see any like the Euros do. Seems like someone on the line could have noticed the handball.

It's hard to blame the refs on a call like that. I'll be honest, I didn't know it was a handball until I saw the replay. I thought he chested/bodied it in legally. They're not supposed to be using technology to make the calls so they have to revert back to the original call. A goalline ref would have helped, goal replay would have helped, but neither are implemented so the refs were hung out to dry here. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that they just didn't see the handball (obstructed views or whatever) and that nothing fishy happened on their end.

Something good might come of this. A high stakes game was wrongfully decided because replay wasn't allowed. It's a good argument to implement it in a way that doesn't prevent the natural flow of the game. Maybe this will get the ball rolling, who knows.

 

Man it must suck to have been drawn Brazil in the sweepstake.
