I'm regretting giving it the bigguns at work about how England are gonna pump Wales. I might have to quit my job.

  2. Hodgson was awful and obviously deserves most of the blame. Sterling was clearly fatigued and should've come off way earlier than he did. Kane wasn't necessarily bad but wasn't making much of an impact. Vardy and Rashford in great form and just sitting on the bench the whole game.

Now that we have goal line technology at the Euro, can someone remind me why there are still goal line referees?

Russian fans rushed into the section of the stadium with England fans after the game.

They help in the decision making process for fouls that happen inside the area. (Pushing/shoving during set pieces or corners, goalkeepers coming off their line on a penalty, encroaching, etc). Having them there also (supposedly) decreases the amount of fouls that take place in the box during free kicks/corners because the players know they're being watched from multiple angles.

With the Russians attacking fans, along with Marseille Ultras' doing the same, it makes me glad I never make the effort to go watch England play in tournaments. Our history of shit fans is costing current fans their safety.

No surprise but no changes for the US tonight. Hope to see Politic at some point.

I dont think it works that well if this is the reason. The more refs you have, the more you will have situations were one of them might think a tackling is a foul and signal it to the main referee, who then probably will call a penalty. E.g. if there is a situation were both the referee and the linesman decide no foul, but the goal line ref is signalling a foul, the ref will probably give the foul, despite two people thought it wasnt a foul and were probably right so.

And then, how many times have goal line referees really made correct signals which otherwise would not have been seen by the ref? I can't think of enough of them to justify the use of goal line referees.

Not sure what English media is reporting but at least here the reports are suggesting that both English and Russian and also French hooligans were attacking each other and also people not involved. So this is not a one-sided issue were Englishmen are only the victims.

I wouldn't believe everything you see in the media. English hooligans are a small minority now lots of work has been put in to stop known hooligans travelling, etc, the past haunts current fans so there have been a lot of innocent English fans being attacked for being English and therefore seen as a way for these French/Russian gangs to prove themselves. I'm sure there are English fans who have attacked the others, but none of it is organised the way the Russians and French have been.

The attacks that happened in the stadium after the game were solely Russians attacking English fans. There's videos of Marseille Ultras starting an attack on English fans drinking at bars today, the English fight back so that might be where the "attacking each other" stories come from, but for the majority it seems like the English have been the innocent and a past reputation has caused the stories.

The most frustrating thing about tonight's game was how completely avoidable it was. Russia were absolutely shite, they offered nothing all game, and despite England's total lack of composure and technique in the final third, we were clearly a class above for 80 minutes. Then we score, and instead of keeping calm and controlling the game as we had been for the previous 75 minutes, we panic and drop deep back into our own third inviting pressure for the final ten minutes. If we'd had a bit of composure and bottle to carry on just as we were, we'd have seen that game out easily. Russia were dire.

Hodgson has to take a massive chunk of blame, his substitutions and gameplan were atrocious today.

Not sub'ing Vardy and using his pace against two 35 year old CBs seems ridiculous.

The first half performance was good, but the team didn't come out for the second half. Completely different performance after half time that allowed Russia back in. If it wasn't for a freekick that Akinfeev should have done better with (not taking away from Dier's strike) then I have no idea what Hodgson was going to do, leaving it until gone 70 minutes to make a change when you can see things aren't working is bad management. Lots to improve in the next two games.

Vardy, Rashford and Sturridge would have all been good replacements for Kane who wasn't having a good game. But I guess we wouldn't have had anyone to take the corners?

  25. I'm hoping to see Vardy and Kane together in a 4-4-2 next game.
