Hard to say Wood hasn't earned it, but Pulisic has IMO. Pulisic has been a great addition off the bench though. I'm glad we are using him in at least some capacity.

 

I also agree. It'd also be interesting to see how a healthy Jozy would've affected this front line.

 

Perfect placement by Jones. I guess we are fortunate that Dempsey's touch was so bad that it turned in to a pass to Jones.

BOBBY WOOD

 

And that's where we need Bobby Wood! Right at the top of the box.

Smart move by Klinsmann if we went to a 4-4-2. Probably fits this lineup out on the field better.

 

The double pivot suits both Jones and Bradley

 

I don't think we got the ball out of our own half for the first 5-10 minutes. Costa Rica threw their midfielders up too high and we just countered through the middle.

 

I think that's also where Bedoya comes in handy. He covers decently when 1 or both of those guys push up.

 

The interchange with Bedoya and Dempsey in the 4231 is nice. Very responsible and efficient play.

 

Zardes also works his ass off to help cover Yedlin. Think that goes unnoticed in a lot of games.

Johnson is so good he's a one man flank sometimes. Not to belittle Wood's defensive work.

 

Absolutely. Fabian is our best player, and it may not even be close. We need him at LB, but he'd be first choice for up to three other positions on the team if we had adequate cover. I have noticed Wood dropping back in to help clog the midfield tonight, which has been great. Our front line is sprinting like crazy on these counters. And old man JJ is getting forward so well. This version of our team is a joy to watch.

 

Starting to make more sense why Colorado has allowed Jones to play more of an attacking role. Good job Mastroeni?

 

Costa Rica took out Campbell? WTF? He's their best player.

 

This ref went from calling every chippy foul for us to not calling a thing. But we're looking good under pressure.

 

Not trying to be a homer, but I think Beckerman compliments Jones and Bradley well. He will willingly cover the midfield to allow both guys to move as they please.

 

So we root for Colombia next game, right?
