Bit short on central midfielders, isn't it? Especially with Wilshere and Henderson being short on fitness, and one of our midfielders also being cover for CB. Think Drinkwater has been distinctly average every time he's played for England mind, so hard to disagree.

Townsend might feel hard done by, but think he's missed out as Rashford can cover all across the front line, not only RW.

Dier, Rooney, Alli in a midfield 3. Sterling, Kane, Vardy across the top would be my guess.

We're totally lacking in wide players. Sterling is the only player in the team who can play as a proper winger. There are others that you can probably put in a shift out there (Lallana, Alli, Milner, Vardy, Sturridge), but none of them are genuine wide players. Think we'll regret not taking Townsend, who while pretty inconsistent and a bit average, is actually a winger who can stretch the game, not a wide midfielder or a striker.

I also think we didn't need both Sturridge and Rashford. If Sturridge is fit, take him as he's a better player, if he's not fit (and considering he's missed training and matches, I don't think he is), take Rashford. Rashford is now our fourth choice striker, and doesn't offer anything that the others don't. I can't imagine a situation where we're desperate for a goal and we put on Rashford over Sturridge.

Harsh on Drinkwater too, he's had a far better season than Henderson.

The lack of width, and the extra strikers in that team makes me think we're going to playing with a diamond in midfield and two up top.

    ----------Dier---------
    Wilshere----------Rooney
    ----------Alli----------

With Vardy and Kane as the two forwards. Sterling to come off the bench if a change is needed and we'll revert to a 4-3-3.

Even considering the source, this made me laugh.

I'd be shocked if Mata stays at the club, Jose already sold him once, and that was when he had been Chelsea's best player for the last two seasons. He's nowhere near as important to the team now, and he hasn't added anything to his game in the past two seasons to make Mourinho re-consider. He's going.

Blind is not a Mourinho-type CB or DM, but he's versatile enough that I imagine he'll be kept around for this season at least.

Yeah I'd be disappointed if Blind went. He's like a much more capable John O'Shea, and every decent team needs someone like that. He's been great this season, and could definitely do a job for us if moved forward into midfield for next season.

The USMNT has looked decent the last 3 friendlies. I wonder if they can make it to at least the quarter-finals in Copa.

Can't believe Wilshere is going to Euros but Drinkwater has to stay at home. Ridiculous.

Harsh on Reus especially with proverbial injury table Schweinsteiger going.

Isco and Saul left out of the Spain squad. I can almost understand not calling up Isco but I don't get Saul at all.

The squad announced today was a 19 man squad, the last 4 places will go to Atletico and Real players I'd assume.

Here is Paul Ince describing the incident which saw David Beckham sent off for kicking out at Diego Simeone in the round of 16 at the 1998 World Cup:

  24. So Kaka left Orlando because he was called up for Copa and now won't play in Copa because of a training injury. Sucks for Orlando.
