I know a lot of people will be happy about this, but just based on this answer I feel like I’m not gonna be that into this album.

I’ll obviously wait to really judge until the album drops... But Black Lines was the first time this band really took a big risk, and for me it really paid off, and led to an album I still come back to all the time. I’m just hoping they aren’t backtracking because Black Lines wasn’t a big hit commercially, that’d be a shame.

    Ah, what a shame.

I dig their older stuff (except Anywhere But Here), but Black Lines was an entirely different level for them. I'll definitely be listening but I'm not as hyped as I was before.

Disappointed to hear that. Black Lines quickly became one of my favorite records in their catalogue (housing some of my favorite songs in their catalogue) because of how different it was.

I'm just hoping its not a rip off of Self-Titled like MITC was. Even down to the structures of the songs in respect to their track list, the albums are just TOO similar. I hope there's still some difference / grit to it.

EDIT: sidenote - unrelated, but thinking about sitting through another "greatest hits" setlist at warped is making me shudder. They do a good job mixing it up on headliners, but damn, am I less than thrilled to sit through Black Cat, Jersey, and (more than likely) 3 Cheers multiple times this summer. Happy to see them, but whatever.

While I am excited to hear it sound like older Mayday, I agree with everything you've said about them taking risks. I feel like they're such a talented band and could push the envelope more. I especially agree with your assessment of the Warped set list!

From looking at their twitter, it seems like something is going to happen very soon.

Not really into this one, pretty standard ballad that doesn’t really go anywhere.

VERY mellow ballad. Don’t care for it honestly, this is exactly what I was hoping they wouldn’t do after Black Lines.

What album can you compare this single to?

Too bad haha, it's okay I didn't have too high of expectations anyway once I realized they were gonna be moving away from the Black Lines sound. I'll still give it a listen.

I guess Monsters in the Closet? This feels pretty mellow even compared to a lot of that one though.

Song is fine. Mayday doing Mayday. Already know I won’t care nearly as much for this album as the last one.

    I like this song

  18. Leak made them put up preorders early.

    They’re live now.

Kind of reminds me of the Maine a bit.

I like it, but I'm not as captivated as I was when Mayday dropped Transmogrification during the last album cycle. At least it doesn't sound exactly like something else they've released before.

I like the song, it's a good song. But man does this not feel anywhere near as exciting as when they dropped "One of Them Will Destroy the Other" to kick off the last cycle. I really wish they had stuck with Sapone and developed that sound more.

It's their band though, ultimately, and they of course decide what direction their music goes in. Not my place to knock them for what style they're going for, just to judge for myself whether they do that style well or not.

Not super into it, but I am honestly surprised this band hasn't not tried to make a radio-rock/country crossover. I honestly think they could be pretty big in that arena.

It says a lot that Mayday is one of the few bands that survived that late 2000s era, but I wish they’d continue to switch things up rather than regress.

Every album has at least a couple great Mayday Parade songs on it so I’m okay with this.

They should've dropped something a little more harder as the first single

New song is good, but not great. I don’t so much mind the regression as the fact that this is a less exciting version of what they were doing before. But the chorus is sort of an earworm in its own way
