Ughhhhhhh I saw that screening listed for last night and I assumed it was just X (which im not crazy about) with a few minutes of MaXXXine attached

 

Oh nvm. it was just at the vista in hollywood where Ti West was doing a Q&A. i feel better about that now

 

X is great. There seems to be a shift in reaction to it since Pearl's release. Interesting characters and great homage to slashers of the 70s with its memorable kills. The story is really interesting with all the general discourse occuring on socials regarding sex in movies and sex work in general.

Pearl is all timer for sure and most likely my favorite movie of the 2020s so far, but X is easier to throw on and watch.

 

Skinamarink gotta be my favorite of the 2020s so far, followed closely by Nope (which literally gets better every time I watch it), but Pearl is top three of the decade so far

 

Dead on.

 

Nope is absolutely my favorite horror-adjacent movie of the decade (#2 being Titane).

Overall favorite movie is a tougher one for me right now

 

I’ll try to rewatch Pearl and X (but in what order?) before this but I remember liking X more

 

I’m thinking release order; but maybe Pearl to X to Maxxxine will be the most rewarding

just signed up for AAA24 yesterday and have been given a free ticket for this. gonna buy a second for my partner and we're gonna try to drive 45 minutes to see it on his birthday!

I'm seeing average to positive reception

 

i think it's at an 89 on RT? people say it's different from the others, and somewhat derivative of its influences, but a hell of a time

 

I think I’m only really interested in the people i follow on LB who are into the type of movie this is trying to emulate. Everything I’ve read makes it sound like a loveletter to Angel/Vice Squad, so I’m looking for people who know what those movies are to give input.
