With Jon Watts in negotiations to direct the 3rd film I’m sure they could easily start production next summer. The question I have is if they will reboot everything with the same actors other than Holland. Will they start from scratch with the relationships between Ned and MJ while having Jacob and Zendaya portray them? Seems like a waste of time for those actors to redo their growing relationship with Holland’s Peter. Will they act as if the character developments of Ned and MJ will continue in the Sonyverse from where they left off in the MCU? This will be the first time that an entire set of actors will jump from one universe to another so I don’t know if Sony will immediately know how to handle it.

Can somebody clarify if this means the last Holland film that he’s signed for is still in the MCU? Or not it’s not?

“Sources said there are two more Spider-Man films in the works that are meant to have director Jon Watts and Tom Holland front and center, though Watts doesn’t have a deal for the next picture.”

They are MEANT to but it doesn’t necessarily mean they will. If Holland is already on contract then he will 99% return unless he pleas with Sony about breaking contract. It could depend on if Watts finalizes his deal as well.

I mean, if it's not Kevin Feige produced, then no, it's not really.

It'll probably be like Marvel Television, where ideas that started in the MCU are carried over (except in this case the characters Marvel owns can't be shown or directly referenced anymore), but the worlds generally ignore each other. So, the threads from Homecoming & Far From Home can continue, especially since they were moving towards him being back in NYC on his own again either way, but no more Iron Man crap.

I understand that it's old, but framing it like Sony is taking "Spider-Man" away from the MCU when they were given the rights to him when Marvel was having a fire sale and wouldn't sell them back to Disney - it's a really weird re-write of history.

Ahh, I just shared it cause I’m sad Spider-Man isn’t going to be in the MCU and it captured that sentiment.

I hope Sony sticks to their guns and doesn't give in to Disney's ridiculous offer.

They won’t if they’ve already said no. The only way they stay is with a different deal.

It's worth noting that, if negotiations are indeed still ongoing, as some later reports have claimed, then it's possible Kevin Feige will try to push Disney towards changing their mind. Doesn't seem like any of this had anything to do w/ him personally, & the James Gunn decision that wasn't Feige's also eventually changed. Maybe this press will get Disney to eventually go back to the original deal.

Though, I'm still pretty alright w/ that not happening. #TeamSony

If they were smart both companies would try to come to a compromise. It’s being reporting that negotiations are still going on so we’ll see. Not being able to see Peter interact with Doctor Strange more, or any of the F4 would be a crime. I mean Disney offering to co-finance not only spider-man films but all of the other spider-man villain films for 50% of the box office doesn’t seem like a bad deal. Sony saves money and stills gains some. Disney also has more than enough money so they should try to ask for less so they can keep Spider-Man. Both companies will make back their money

  17. It's a ridiculous deal. Truly laughable that they thought this would be taken seriously.

How involved was Sony with the two Holland films? I know they owned the rights, but beyond that were they heavily involved?

Implying people aren't mad about him being Spider-Man 11 more times within an established universe that this version of the character has been in from the very start.

Yes, how can we go on without seeing Tom Holland interact with all his MCU friends like... all the people he met briefly in Civil War/Infinity War/Endgame and barely spoke to

Peter's big connections to the larger MCU are Tony Stark (dead) and Happy (largely irrelevant). Honestly, even if this deal did go through, the most natural path to take the character is one where he's largely self-contained.

Except that every Spider-Man villain so far has had a connection with Tony and will have to be dropped.
All of his suits so far have used Stark or Shield tech and will need to be dropped and changed motivations.
All connections to Thanos, the snap and the blip will have to be dropped.
Any reference to any character that Sony doesn't own will have to be dropped like he forgot about them.
