The Gold wasn't even sent to 'Alternative' radio stations until September 12...nearly two months after the release of ABMTTS.

Definitely a middle tier thread, it's not terrible but certainly isn't consistently great

We reach for the longest shadow

I can understand wanting an album to release sooner because you love the band and you're impatient, but being legitimately mad is weird.

    Who is legitimately mad? LOL

This thread complains when there is no discussion and complains when there is discussion.

    Motel. Money. Murder. Madness.

I think the hype they were able to produce with BM helped them get those songs and that record to where they needed to be.

The BM tour(s) were the most successful they’ve ever done. They sold the most tickets (per capita) and had the highest demand they’d ever had to that point.

BM is literally their first record for a lot of people. Look at those Silence views, and look at everything else they’ve done (when you factor in the time it’s been out). It’s a huge difference.

Do I attribute even 20% to the rollout or the hype it spawned? No. But it helped set the stage, surely. Especially for certain people that matter.

BM isn’t even in my top three for them (at this point), but this is the reality.

But...your original response to my album rollout post was that 'they're wanting to do that again'....

This album rollout is not comparable to ABMTTS

BM had a six week rollout. The first two singles were released within two weeks of each other.

We got Bedhead a month ago, and still have another six weeks to go.

It's apples to oranges....and once again...we have no clue when touring is coming back.

internet forum posters acting like they know anything about how to market and promote an album in 2021 is very strong know-it-all energy

I meant they’re wanting to duplicate the overall success in terms of broadening their audience. Grow it over and over.

I think the rollout played into it. The games, clues, phone numbers, etc.

I remember METN being on the EOTY lists in ‘09, but never paid them no mind. Then for whatever reason checked them out in 2012 while playing Skyrim one day. The rest was history. When I heard Pride I knew they were for me .

My best friend in high school was driving us to lunch and put on "Rotten Black Root" and I had never really heard any music outside of the radio at this point in time and I was STUNNED. Asked who that was and fully dived into the whole discography and was glad to hear that COPE was coming out the following year.

How I became a fan? I was supposed to see MO and BN in salt lake in like 09. They cancelled because JL got sick or something. I was aware of the band's name from those bills (and the 07 bills - which also were rescheduled from a cancelled '06 BN show i believe). a few months later, I was interning at Sony Music when I saw Like a Virgin and Mean Everything lying on a cabinet. Took them home, ripped them, and put both albums on shuffle while i did laundry. The bridge/breakdown of Shake It Out stopped me dead in my tracks. Couldn't believe what I was listening to. Luckily a show was right around the corner a few weeks later.

This performance was my introduction to them, and what got me hooked.

i’ve been meaning to tell you

I saw Andy back in 2015 when he was touring with Dustin Kensrue. Didn't super love it, so didn't think to check out his band. A few years later, I played bass in a church band, and we did a cover of The Maze. I thought it was cool so I checked out the rest of the album.

I believe you could also call that person a consumer, since they buy the product being sold.

Also, lots of people here have real jobs that may influence their opinion. You never know if your know it all comment is a towards a person with a marketing background. Just something to think about.

Bands/labels will do what they want. I get why people would suggest creating a hype wave during time like this and shorten a roll out. I’d be on board with that too. But if MO wants to take their time, and maybe follow a more traditional path they likely have a reason for that too.

Looking forward to new music from them because I didn’t connect to ABMTTS except maybe a song or two like most of you. I was surprised by that, but Bed Head has been in my head so I’m hoping For more of that.

Drove 5.5 hours from Bloomington IN to Milwaukee WI for this show with my sister while in college. The legendary BN/MO/KD lineup. Had listened to a few MO tracks on MySpace ahead of time which got me excited but then they blew me away live and I was hooked.
