Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

Rhythm section is the best they’ve sounded on this album

Telepath came in with a heavy hitter at the end of a rough month.

This is their best album. It's beautiful. Andy has never sounded better and, overall, the lyrics have never been better.

For me, this is one those rare albums that somehow also makes the rest of their catalogue even better. It just makes me appreciate their range so much more.

    Someday I’ll find me Prestigious

Genuinely loving all of the positivity in here today.

On first spin, I expected the more mellow approach they took with the back half of the album to be super divisive, but it’s exciting to see it actually drawing in agreement on the best qualities of the record.

The thread’s been pretty positive in general for the last couple days  glad to see that continuing

Good guy, but a bad dude

I didn’t expect them to be able to make something on the scale of Black Mile again but they fucking did it

I thought Let It Storm would be the standout for most people, kinda surprised to see it not getting much love.

I love when it gets wild.

Listening to this in my office is not the optimal First Listen Experience tbh.

    I do not exist.

Anyone want to tell me why I pre-ordered on Bandcamp but it's still not available? It's now 1.20pm in the UK... been refreshing since 7am! Does this always happen?

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

I think artists/labels have to manually upload to Bandcamp which is why stuff doesn't go up there right at midnight like Spotify and that

but yeah this is kinda wild, it's nearly the 31st here in Aus and still nothing lol

We reach for the longest shadow

Alright I don’t know if y’all care for track by track reactions, here it is anyway.

Inaudible - fun./Nate Ruess vibes at points

Angel of death - blip similar to the wolf? Love the slow burn ending

Keel timing - I’ll take this time to talk about how flawlessly it flows. We knew to expect that though.

Bed head - first time listening to these on my good headphones plugged directly up to my phone and downloading from the highest quality on Spotify. Noticing some cool stuff I’ve never heard before.

Annie - chorus melody is gorgeous. Spotify told me this calls back to the angel of death melody, wasn’t familiar enough to catch that but I love that stuff.

Telepath - who’s singing background vocals? I love highly produced quieter songs, so I’m probably in for a treat from here.

Let it storm - Oo that pause was really cool. Whoaaaa this sonnnnnnnng. I think that was the chorus? Lyrics there were really nice. All of Andy’s melodies are just honey to the ears this time around. His voice is in peak form. Okay yeah this is the chorus. People don’t like this one?

Dinosaur - okay first callback I caught, to keel timing. Last minute, let’s gooooo

Obstacle - okay cool that bridge rips. Not much to say I haven’t already said.

Way back - Spotify tells me that pop in the chorus is a fire crackling they caught during the original demo multi tracked? That’s awesome. Second half reminded me of softer Coheed for some reason.

The internet - this is obviously cool, but kind of hard to process after everything else. That clip of Andy and his daughter talking was cool. I like the slow burn outro a lot.

We reach for the longest shadow

this might be a weird take, but after everyone that TSwift has worked with on the last two albums, I really think her and Andy and the team that worked on this album could make some magic.

I don’t think that’s a stretch. Manchester, in hindsight, has a very similar career path to The National in how they were this slow burn to being huge.

Excited to have my second listen of this today.

So many moments upon initial listen where I had to pick my jaw up off the ground.
