This is wholly understandable, but if something isn’t about the something that’s being speculated...

  3. I don't really think I need to explain how levels of toxicity around something, even if it's "not what it's actually about," can ruin and taint. There seem to be enough examples over the last, I dunno, let's just pick five years, to showcase that.

  4. My theory: It's all about unlocking a permission structure to allow themselves to feel free of guilt. If their faves still support, then they are righteous.

I personally think Stairway to Heaven is about the slow progression towards relief you feel as you empty your bowels upon that porcelain throne.

Writing a song about a complicated relationship (real, fake or a composition) is a healthy outlet. If one night a guy felt conflicted and wrote some lyrics that makes him human. I never made that connection to a certain other artist, but more the scenario we see of blame and public judgement that happens every day (right or wrong).

you are correct in that i won’t bc i think continuing to derail this thread is pretty dumb but i absolutely could. again, numerous people have had the same complaint about you and your idol worship. that isn’t just me lol. and it’s been the same for weeks. have, like, an ounce of self-awareness.

    Because they don’t exist.

I’ve literally said I barely listen to this band outside of album/tour cycles.

    That’s some gnarly idol worship.

And it has been, since 2007 (if we’re including AP). My icon has been METN since it came out too.

Also true. I am a fan of the band. A huge fan.

I think y’all need to look up what actual ‘idol worship’ is.

I, for one, am very upset that on this thread about a new album by Manchester orchestra, on a forum for music fans, on a website about music, where people discuss their fandom and new records, that a user would use a musical album as their profile photo and discuss the music on a podcast about the band.

doesn’t this dork know this thread is only for dunking on people’s opinions and excitement?

Why are people attacking people again???? I pretty sure everyone here is capable of describing their level of fandom for a band.

I have idol worshipped MO, Springsteen, Nirvana, Have Heart, King of the Hill, Seinfeld, the Oakland A’s, Randy Johnson, and Sopranos.

if we’re going back to the AIM days.

I wasn't meaning to attack, but it definitely came off as that. Apologies to ManchesterOrch8 for honestly this whole thread

People go through threads making these accusations all the time. They just show up and start posting until that feel satisfied they’ve ruined someone’s day or got under their skin.

It definitely came across this way. Glad you could recognize and acknowledge that, even if it wasn’t your intention.

People are allowed to have different opinions, but the accusation stuff just breeds hostility. Facts are usually pretty clear, but opinions should be allowed to be discussed.

Don't want to get involved but confused how "idol" worship is being brought up in a thread dedicated to a band/members?

    MOVING on-

Excited to check out that livestream

This thread has had months of mostly decent chatter about the album, sound, rankings, vinyls and stuff.

Why days before an album drop, just after another song release, do people feel the need to alter the nature of this thread?

Agreed. I'm honestly even more overt with my fandom for other bands so I'm not really sure why I went on the offensive.

I think people were just weirded out by the weird parasocial relationship and bragging vibes going on. No one says you can’t be a big fan. We’re all big fans of artists, that’s why we post on a music website. But there’s a line to being a fan and some people on here felt that it was being crossed. At least that’s how I saw it.

There's also a difference between vague posting/flexing and idol worship.

I love how this is a thread where just recently it was posted that Stairway to Heaven is about the relief you feel taking a giant shit and that wasn't what brought up the discussion of lines being crossed.

I agree, it is also canon now.

(I screwed up quoting phaynes and I can't figure out how to fix it now.)
