The Alien was a standout for me in Detroit last year

The Sunshine live is the real highlight of the trilogy though

I guess just in comparison with having the full band there really isn't much they can pull from it. Like the music video was awesome. Acoustic versions are great. But the live version just sounds like a not as good studio version. At least to me personally. Other songs like Pride, Cope, I Can Barely Breathe, Shake it Out, The River, The Gold, etc. Are brought to a totally new level. Whereas the alien isn't.

Honestly, they aren’t my favorite band - I love them, but other bands are ahead of them on the pecking order. But they ARE my favorite live band.

something about the latest album has made it not age well for me. not trying to be a downer, but it just doesn't grab me like it did initially.

they are great live though. haven't seen them in a few years, but every show I went to has been great.

I keep changing my mind on my favorite song from this album. Originally it was The Sunshine, and then The Wolf. But now it's definitely The Maze. That song is seriously beautiful and the harmonies are so good. I only wish it were longer, but it serves as a fantastic opener.

    Motel. Money. Murder. Madness.

I like I’ve Got Friends the least, but I still love that song.

More love for it live than on the record.

I’m not a fan at all of Pride on the record. Live, it’s incredible, but they make a ton of changes.

I mean, it’s certainly top tier for me. I can just imagine that with such a deep library that someone is bound to put something on the bottom that others wouldn’t.

It feels like if the band thought Pride, as recorded, was really great, that they wouldn’t change it so drastically live.

Or... does the band love it so much they’ve put that much care and attention to making it even better?

  24. ManchesterOrch8

    Motel. Money. Murder. Madness.

Bands have spent decades changing and remaking songs over andover, I wouldn’t say that indicates a dislike for the studio version.

That’s fair. I’m sure the band likes what’s on the record. Though, I’m equally sure they prefer what they do now, since that’s what they do and they could always play it like the recorded version of they felt like it.

Regardless. I never put the recorded version on any MO playlists, but I always enjoy seeing it live.
