    I do not exist.

Funny - I started with mwY, then MO, then Thrice! As previously mentioned, I've not got into Brand New yet. Although I did see them when mwY supported them in the UK.

Right Away, Great Captain got me into The Milk Carton Kids, which is weird, because completely different genres. But The Milk Carton Kids always showed up on the RAGC Pandora station like 6 years ago.

Anyone else at the show last night? They sounded tight as ever. New stuff sounded great.

But Andy seemed upset or something. I've seen them several times and he's always really funny. Talks a lot while tuning, cracks everyone up, seems really into it, interacts a lot with the other band members, etc. But last night he even said something and then made a point of saying he wasn't going to talk again for the next hour.

He did say a really nice thing about how supportive Columbus has been to their band over the years. But other than that, the band didn't really interact with each other, he didn't talk and he seemed like he was just getting through it.

I'm not saying all this because I'm mad at them or something. I get that people have bad nights, or maybe he just doesn't like talking from stage anymore. I'm not really sure. But his stage presence was noticeably different than I've ever seen it.

My friend who lives in Columbus went and texted me saying it was 'literally top great' and he brought a friend who doesn't listen to MO at all and 'he lost his shit'

Were people talking during the set? I've been to shows where Andy get in moods when people talk during the set to the point once where he stopped a song and told people to 'shut the fuck up' and the crowd ate it up.

I saw a live video of The Silence a few weeks back and was disturbed at how loud the crowd was talking during the FINAL SONG of the night.

I've noticed andy doesn't talk as much at Manchester shows as he does on his solo shows. Wonder if he's just getting tired on the tour too haha, they did an acoustic performance and then do another show later probably feeling the grind.

Quiet Things and Sic Transit got a TON of play on radio/MTV2 back in the day, like 2003ish

Yea brand new was played about as much as yellow card was when deja came out. Manchester never had that type of mainstream success.

His wife is pregnant too. I'm sure it's hard being on the road with a 3-year-old at home and a pregnant wife. Literally just went through it myself (not on tour, but wife pregnant with a 2-year-old at home) and I'm sure it's not easy for them. Pregnancy can be a very, very rough thing on women, families.

not in my time, lol. i've heard i've got friends and shake it out far more on alt radio than i ever did brand new (albeit in like 2008 or so)

i've got friends charted higher than any brand new song did

People definitely talk during the new songs. It was way too loud during the Alien. It blows my mind that anyone was anything other than silent or singing along for that, but I guess when you play quiet new songs it happens.

I haven't seen them before except for once at Riot Fest, so I'm not too familiar with how they usually are, but I think maybe they're just going for something a little more serious this tour? I mean the new album is pretty dark, and the whole set feels very - I really hate using this word in 2017 but - epic and bombastic. It would be kind of weird to have Andy cracking jokes after a three song stretch about a guy who was abused as a kid and goes and shoots up a grocery store.

I've seen MO six times, RAGC/Andy solo twice and Bad Books once. Andy definitely talks/jokes more during the RAGC/Solo stuff than he does when he's with the full band. Maybe it's a nervous habit because he's up there by himself and feels he needs to banter with crowd.

I actually don't recall him talking much at all in any of the six times I've seen them as a full band...or with Bad Books

To be honest, when I go to shows, I feel the less a band talks in between songs, the better.

  18. I get pretty frustrated with disrespectful crowds but I didn't think last night really fit the bill, at least where I was near the back of the pit. Also didn't think Andy seemed upset or annoyed or anything, just not particularly talkative. He seemed genuinely grateful when talking about how supportive Columbus has been (something I've seen him say at Columbus shows in the past as well). Also yeah holy fuck they sounded so god damn good and the sound at the LC was perfect. Great show.

I'll be sure to take notice of whether or not he has a lot of or minimal banter tonight in Detroit. I don't remember him saying much onstage when I saw them tour for Cope a couple years back. Less banter usually means more songs, so I'm alright with it.

He seems super focused and has really cut down on most social media since the album dropped.

I've actually read that same comment during a LOT of the shows recently. That he looks pissed or bothered by something.

He's always been an interesting dude. Super talkative and then super quiet. Funny and then serious. I'm sure tour is taking a toll, and pregnant wife and kid may add to it.

I know he HATES talking during shows. There have been a few I've been to where he's called out people multiple times.

Why people go to shows and talk is beyond me. I can't think of anything more disrespectful to not only the band, but the people around you. It drives me up a wall even thinking about it.

  24. awakeohsleeper

    I do not exist.

It makes no sense to me. It's a scourge on live performances and can often ruin the emotion harnessed by quieter songs. Why would you pay to see a band and then talk?

I will never forget being at The Stuffing the . . . second year, I believe, and the whole crowd talking and a few people shouting "Whoo!" in the middle of "I Can Feel a Hot One." I wanted to die. I think that was the same year Andy ripped into some girl yelling sexual comments at him during the show.
