Well the album doesn't suck, but I suppose that's your opinion.

  2. I mean... coming back into the thread to subpost (like this for example) feels tone deaf and isn't helping. It isn't going to de-escalate a conflict that is far from resolved, especially when the conversations about holding him accountable are important and should be had without being immediately brushed off. The quality of his output should be the least of our concerns for the moment.

It really did, ever since those MGK pedo tweets came out it’s kind of like the thread really shouldn’t even be a thing anymore. Definitely not the time to boost this dude in any way. Totally agree.

Women/LGBT in punk definitely existed pre-2010 but the way the scene and music industry treated women/LGBT made it difficult for them to be recognized, and the fact that people were likely lazy and didn’t want to do the bare minimum in seeking out such artists (even though they were there) is why representation for them wasn’t as prevalent as it is now.

To go off of Jake’s point, it would be nice if more women/LGBT/POC musicians in punk/indie rock/Emo/any genre really got more attention, news posts, and reviews on here than the MGK album or the latest thing Blink is up to or honestly any problematic artists.

You’re fine! I agree with everything you said. My point is just that if you see this as an issue, and you run a website that has the ability to help fix the issue, why not just do it and spend less time promoting MGK or Blink or New Found Glory or whoever.

  6. I think one of the biggest *general* problems on this site is that some people (I am guilty of this in the past) take criticism on this site as "YOU DON'T AGREE WITH US SO YOU'RE A BAD PERSON", neglecting the fact that it's literally a discussion about accountability. You're just making yourself look like a bad person when the hill you're willing to die on is in the thread for the Machine Gun Kelly pop punk album.

Anyway, this dude is a pedo clown and you should go check out the new Stand Atlantic album instead.

Halsey has mentioned before how much she loved Taking Back Sunday growing up, and she’s got such a great pop punk voice....would love to see her do her own pop punk album.

It’s genuinely baffling that there is a crew of posters on here, typically the same people across multiple threads, who do shit like that. What is the purpose? I could see it if you were a 14 year old 4chan user looking to stir the pot. But I can assume we’re all adults, right?

Why read pages and pages of people talking about the artist being problematic or a shit head and then post something positive? It’s a recurring theme. In here, in the blink thread, in the TSSF thread. Genuinely anywhere that there is a discussion about accountability in an artist thread, some dope will pop in to purposely ignore all the important things being discussed. Why?

Eh, I don't want to say it's a site wide thing. There are way more people than I'd like doing it, but overall it seems to be this weird antagonistic subsection. The overwhelming majority of people I interact with on a regular basis are doing the right thing. I only really see it when I pop into threads like this

    EDIT:
Unless, of course, you're on the opposing side and are fine with people doing that shit. Then goodbye!

honestly if you want to gush about someone like MGK the best place to go would probably be 8kun

  18. Either these people have some users blocked so they can't really see what all is being talked about, or they could just be popping into the thread to comment real quick and aren't going through all the past posts they've missed. Or they're purposefully ignoring the posts and don't care, which is definitely possible, unfortunately.

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

It happens way too often for it to not be people just ignoring it and trying to change the subject

  20. All those possibilities are upsetting and the reason I see no other solution than to lock the thread. And stop promoting him but that's what my suggestion implies in the end.

  21. I'll try to succintly express the biggest thing that has been boiling in my head and made me progressively migrate to another place over the last few years.

On that place, once Melanie Martinez or Camila Cabello (whose thread still gets bumped over here but that's a discussion for another day I guess...) got caught having done (very) problematic stuff, the same patterns emerged. A quick but inevitable lock prevented similar things from escalating any further and no threads are made about them anymore. From that point onwards, they're not promoted in any way whatsoever.

Isn't it what they deserve? What do we all say about people getting consequences in this supposed cancel culture some like to complain about again?

I don't get the silence, the deflection, the shrug emojis, the... lack of doing anything, like... it's really not that complicated! It's all up to the mod(s) to act. You can't pat yourself on the back for caring about accountability and everything it encompasses, and then do nothing to make the community safer once a case like this pop up. It shouldn't be left, over and over again, to regular (ie. without mod or staff powers) users like us to play the police, for the lack of a better expression.

And by the way, I'm by no means comparing these cases and their gravity to each others. Those are simply the examples that came to mind.

tl;dr Just handle those things better! Thats all I'm asking for.

We are on a music forum, there’s tons of music constantly posted on here. There’s plenty of other non-problematic artists to talk about instead of a pedophile.

I'm conflicted about what the appropriate thing to do is. I've always kinda thought closing the threads/not allowing threads for certain artists straddles a weird line, especially if the thread existed prior to the allegations coming out. I do my best to pop into those threads and point out the situation/try to get people to understand how an artist is problematic. A poster like @ArmsLikeTeeth and I have had an incredibly contentious relationship for a decent amount of time, and it's cool to see them grow and communicate in a way that they have in this thread. There are other posters too who have grown out of their old mentality and are taking accountability seriously, and that growth happened over the course of discussion within threads like this. Closing the thread immediately or not allowing those discussions to take place completely cuts off that open communication. In addition, the thread then sinks into the depths of the site where no one can really go back and reread/research the situation.

On the other hand, there are many more shitty people on here refusing to engage and just ignoring everyone's points and continuing to promote the artists. This thread becomes a space for them to continue to be ignorant and promote a person who should not have a platform.

While it is good that some people do change their opinions, ways of thinking/engaging with issues of accountability, etc. as stated above far too often others on this website will, in the middle of an important discussion regarding accountability/issues with an artist, continue the discussion as if nothing is happening. It's definitely weird. Sometimes you don't have to say anything at all. Sometimes it is best to just shut up and read what others are saying. I'm guessing these people think, at least in this case, that because it happened many years ago it isn't that important, which is not true. It's still absolutely worth bringing up since it's gross behavior and has never been addressed before.
