Transparency: I (obviously) deleted a lot of posts. But I also gave warnings as I went, so just because "the receipts" are gone, warnings were given to those whose behavior deserved them. I tried to leave all relevant posts to the bigger issues being discussed.

 

For my part, I would like to apologize for any of my behavior in this thread tonight. I sincerely wasn't trying to be antagonistic, play devil's advocate, or stir up shit.

I’ll leave it at this: no one is defending MGK and his creepy tweets from a decade ago. He should probably at least acknowledge them instead of just deleting them. My issue is the demeanor of how certain people around here hop in threads, completely shit on everyone interacting with them, and claiming some moral high ground bullshit. The vast majority of people that come here do so to talk about music. I’ve said a million times there are valid points brought up. If you want people to productively engage your approach is all wrong, that’s all. Meant no harm. Cheers folks.

There are tons of other non-pedophile artists whose music you can talk about on this site so idk why this sentence is relevant at all. And who could possibly still want to talk about this dude's music after reading those tweets?

the only engagement i want to see when i or anyone else calls out someone like MGK is something in the vein of "Damn, that's horrible. Looks like I'm done supporting this artist. Thanks for raising awareness!"

If simply calling a pedophile a pedophile is going about it "all wrong", then I don't want to be right! And anyone who thinks that "approach is all wrong" is pretty sus!

 

Also, yeah, i'm gonna claim the moral high ground over someone with gross pedo tweets! I'm very comfortable doing that.

I don’t know what your deal is, but I’ve had thousands of “real” conversations with people about topics like this. Literally thousands. And if they’re in good faith I have no problem with it. You, however, are not in good faith. You want to score weird online clout, even here, taking a dig at the fact that I admit I grew up in a bad time for representation and diversity in the music I liked as a kid. It’s low and pathetic. It’s the opposite of trying to reach moral philosophy or discover paths to restorative justice.

 

I don't respond to shit that is so clearly in bad faith that it's not worth it to engage. Those that want to talk about things in good faith, I do all the time, and in great depth. I've touched on all these topics thousands of times with people who don't try and make it all about them or all about trying to throw digs or punish people trying to learn or grow. This isn't in good faith, you've made that abundantly clear, so I have no reason to go back and forth with you.

 

I didn't say that, I said you are. Which you admit. I said I was more than willing to talk to people and how to reach me in a way that I can take the time for a lengthy conversation and back and forth in a way that is productive.

I'm not about to out people who I talk to about the private conversations we have. I don't care if you believe me or not.

 

Blink and the association they have with MGK, does it not change how you perceive the band.

Of course it does. I’ve written about the awful decisions they’ve made in collaborations and such quite a bit.

 

I tried a few songs and wasn't really feeling it. I can definitely see Halsey pulling this type of move off way better, as she has a more clear lyrical perspective and vision than MGK displayed on the songs I’ve heard from this.

 

Damn, this thread literally went off a cliff in the past few days I've not checked it...
