Wtf don't use you realise that cishet white males are allowed to do whatever they want without consequences for their actions? Get with the program!!!!

  2. If a 19 year old man sexually objectifying minors doesn't get you all up in arms, I'm scared to find out what actually does.

I have seen Machine Gun Kelly live twice. One of the times was on Halloween and he made it a Halloween contest where everyone could dress up in costume. The top 5 costumes would get to hang with him after the show in his tour bus. He ended up only picking girls (and I believe allowed more girls to come in) and a lot of them looked barely legal. (likely just choosing them so he could have sex with them). It rubbed me the wrong way. This was in 2015. (I know this because I waited around after with a group of people to try and meet him). The tweets may be years old now but that doesn’t change the fact that he tweeted them and as recent as 2015 he was (very likely) doing sketchy things with presumably young women.

Taking into account the social, political and cultural change that has happened regarding sexual assault and women over even just the past 5 years, the world just looked a lot different around 2010. Joking about R Kelly was a thing. IsAnyOneUp was a thing. As for sexualizing minors, he even says “so I wouldn’t feel like such a creeper.” He’s acknowledging it. He’s also a dumbass and bad at jokes.

As for what actually gets me riled up, I don’t know, maybe 200,000 Americans dead, an incompetent leader rallying neo nazis and racist militias, a looming threat of economic collapse, and the constant death of black bodies by law enforcement. It’s definitely not a couple tweets from over a decade ago.

Whataboutism. People can be angry at our horrible president and also call out Machine Gun Kelly’s questionable behavior, regardless of when it was.

Um people can care about more than one thing at a time? It's really not that hard for you to, I don't know, say absolutely nothing instead of just shrugging it off as a "bad joke." Sexual assault was still sexual assault in 2010, who gives a fuck that it was 10 years ago. Dude's a shithead.

There’s also this tweet too he made about Eminem’s daughter who was 16 at the time. So gross.

Aw come on, that was 2012! It was a different time! You can’t fault him for that I’m sure he didn’t mean what he said.

  10. The mental gymnastics you're using to excuse him is honestly worrying. Are you really suggesting sexualizing actual children was more acceptable 10 years ago and that somehow it makes his behavior okay? Just... stop for one second and rethink what you've written. Giving him a pass because of the decade gap and his age -once again, he was 19- is exactly what makes predators still thrive to this today.

"He’s acknowledging it. He’s also a dumbass and bad at jokes." That makes it even worse. He knew what he was doing and, you know, jokes are supposed to be funny. These tweets don't like read ones at all.

The only right for him to do would be to acknowledge the tweets, and apologizing for saying stupid/creepy shit like that, instead of just trying to delete them. Yes, they are bad 10 year old jokes, and not a huge deal, but the only way to prove that you've grown as a human (which he hopefully has, just like the rest of us do over 10 years) is to recognize how wrong it is to be saying stuff like that, even more so when you have a platform.

    Things have changed.

Given that Travis Barker went through a similar thing with HIS daughter, surely he will disavow MGK, right?

    RIGHT?

Nah come on haven’t you read it was so long ago and he didn’t *really* mean the literal words he actually said and also he’s grown so much since then despite there being no evidence of that being the case

I don’t want to tell people how to think but anyone who cares about creating a more inclusive and safer music scene should absolutely be on board with calling out / condemning MGK’s actions / tweets sooooo yeah

It looks like Jake W was banned (I don't think he had his account deleted, it was up just a few days ago and he hasn't been active since he made the posts in here and the Blink thread), which I don't think was appropriate. Not going to name any names, but if worse people are allowed to stay on this website, there is no reason why he should be banned for speaking his mind. He wasn't even saying anything radical.

From my memory, he was just talking about how people are really hyping up this release but not hyping up POCs who are making punk music. (If I'm misinterpreting what he said, someone please clarify). It wasn't like he was breaking any rules or anything.

It sucks because while I don't know him outside of this website, I always thought he was a good poster. He would often post about smaller artists, especially those who are women/LGBT and POC/marginalized, who otherwise wouldn't get a lot of attention on here which was great, and something he felt passionate about (the main reason he left the website was because he felt attention to these artists was severely lacking on this website, according to a post on his profile detailing why he chose to leave).

He was a positive contributor to the community and even if he voluntarily chooses to never come back banning him reflects poorly on this website, in my opinion.

  24. I missed the latest development but I'd just like to say it would be wise to get the tiniest transparency about what led to this decision. I'm dumbfounded.

  25. Yeah this fucking sucks and I have no idea why it happened, what the hell?
