Love (Netflix) TV Show • Page 22

  1. My only gripe with S3 is that they introduced a lot of new plot points that didn't get resolved, or at least it felt like a lot of stuff kind of got left up in the air. I would have appreciated another season or just a few more episodes to wrap up some of the storylines that were more on the side.

I'm curious of a few examples you're thinking of?

  3. Mostly stuff outside of their relationship. The movie Gus was making, we never really had an ending with Arya, no real closure on Dr. Greg, and why did we spend a whole episode on Gus’s ex wife without ever seeing her again? These are really small things but it seemed like all of those plots would go further

I don't know, as much as I'd love another season in the future wrapping things up/showing these characters down the line, I feel like an open ending works pretty perfectly for this series. I don't really feel like I need a resolution for any of those things (the movie might've been nice), and the episode with his ex-fiancee in particular was a way to introduce Gus' issues with honesty, desire to settle down and shatters any "grass is always greener" curiosity his character may have

Also don't really get the complaints about "supermodels constantly trying to fuck Gus" or whatever. There's a weird almost threesome in the first episode and then what, Heidi toward the end of the first season? And she had issues/motivations of her own that made sense to me, so that never really pulled me out of it

edit: for the record, I generally enjoy Apatow projects and understand the criticism, just don't totally agree with it in this case. But what the fuck do I know

  5. I can agree with the movie bit, which is kind of wrapped up in Arya’s plot line anyway, but Dr. Greg’s arc this season pretty much just served to show how Mickey’s life at work turned around and went from being a toxic force in her life to a positive one, which had a direct effect on her relationship with Gus as his work at life slowly got worse. Didn’t really need any more of Dr. Greg’s downfall to get that across. Agreed with above too that Gus’ ex-wife served a lot of narrative purpose and didn’t need anything more than what we got from her, which I thought, btw, was fantastic.

  6. Also it makes sense that she's only in one episode considering she's only in LA for their mutual friend's wedding, which is definitely a realistic place to run into exes

regardless, as much as Bertie's Birthday wowed me, the more I think about it, the more that wedding episode may have been the season's best

I think that Gus’s exwife was brought up more not because she was important to the narrative herself, but the fact that Gus would never even mention her and tried to downplay their engagement as a college fling was the more imprtant aspect of the whole episode and the season as a whole

I thought Dr. Greg being put on suspension/leave and getting escorted out of the studio was closure.

I would not like Dr. Greg in real life, but I loved his character on the show. Watching him fail this last season was really funny.

He’s clearly meant to represent the out of touch 40 something white male who would call the “me too” movement a “witch hunt”.

It made sense that his closure was him getting suspended. Like a lot of this season it’s left open ended. I like to feel he starts to eventually realize how ignorant he is, and changes. Just like Randy it’s left open, and I think it’s a breath of fresh air. We don’t always need a clear cut finale a la BB or Boardwalk Empire.

I do think Arya (sp?)'s relationship with Gus wasn't given much in the way of closure, and not in the intentional way of some of the other characters. She seemed to respond to Gus as a person, to get something from their relationship, much as she made fun of him, and while I don't think it needed anything cheesy like her standing up to her dad/press team to be in Gus' movie, just some form of acknowledgement of what might lie ahead for her, especially amidst the uncertainty of the career of a teenage TV star, would have gone a long way.

It was weird having an episode about a dinner party not having any food when that was an episode of The Office

also Gus' movie sounds so bad , but on brand like he's such a "nice guy" that he'd make the most misogynistic movie ever

I feel like several sitcoms have done it tbh. Can't think of anything off the top of my head, but it felt very familiar and I've never watched The Office.

In the Office ep there was technically food but it was cooking the whole time and everyone left when Michael and Jan’s fighting escalated

You don't think that Gus was a total ass in the episode where they get sick? Also curious why you think people aren't acting like real couples.

A bunch of natural dialogue just isnt present. People seem to not really care about each other even in the moments where theres not supposed to be an issue. People dont say or show affection really ever idk. Normal human stuff. Its either bc theyre all wrong for each other or bc the show isnt good at portraying it.

The most obvious examples are Randy doesnt hang out with Berty on her b day, or like you said, Gus when Micky gets sick. Etc.

This wedding episode is amazing lol. Love it. Weddings can be the fucking worst with that kind of stuff. Best episode of the series so far. That actress is perfect.
