THANK YOU for also catching that. The moment Daniel Stern came out of the car I burst out laughing

That's probably why they haven't mentioned SNL or Grown Ups on this show, so they aren't tied to their own logic so the characters aren't freaking out that Arya's Dad looks and sounds exactly like David Spade

I enjoyed this season. Wish we had more Heidi though

Also Mickey talking about how she wants to marry and older man for his money felt inspired by her persona on CBB

Was this directed at me? I didn't mean to come off as complaining. I can appreciate the show for what it is and still not like it as much as four of my most favorite comedies. Hey, I like it more than Better Things, and those characters aren't insufferable, so maybe that counts for something.

edit: I get that I may not have been clear. I should've probably said "I really like this show and would like it a little more if the characters were a little more likable but it's cool I like that they're unlikable"

the shitiness of people portrayed in this is pretty common in real life. that makes the situation more relateable. because it's everyday people being gross and not a drug kingpin. I don't see any point of bringing out any argument like that.

and in plenty of other ways this is crazy un realistic. mainly how is Mickey with a dude like Gus. she looks like a supermodel. and how does Gus get the women he gets.

  9. I like that I can relate to the characters when they're being shitty. Can I still not like the show as much as I like other shows, or is that not okay?

my post was directed at Nathan actually. I didn't see a point in his argument.

Not directed at anyone in particular, just a common complaint I've seen.

Everyone at Gus' job except for Kevin and Heidi are the worst part of this show. So hard to watch.

Edit: of course after I say that one of them appears to be human.

While she isn't my favorite character, I find her less abrasive than the Witchita staff and the girl/students Gus tutors.

Yeah haha, I know. I can't compare her to Kevin, but she gets an honorable mention. She brought some laughs in season one.

Watching episode 5 waiting for this shit to go off the rails

Was watching this last night and got to episode 9 and thought, "damn, I don't want this to end yet" - Then I realized there's 12 episodes, I was thinking there was only 10. YAY!!!

I feel like its fine for people to recognize that the things a character does are harmful and consider them unlikeable yet still enjoy watching the show. Thats where I'm at with it. The point of the show is to highlight their flaws and I wouldn't say that recognizing those flaws in the characters is complaining about the quality of the show itself, nor does it mean that a person critisizing the characters couldn't recognize that they've been in similar situations, have hurt people or made poor decisions in relationships. I think theres a fine line between straight up hating it vs feeling unpleasent emotions while watching the awkwardness of their lives unfold.

Almost done with my rewatch of S1 before I start 2 tomorrow. I think the exact episode where I stop liking Gus as much and like Mickey more is the Magic Castle one

I don't think anyone in this is unlikable, aside from like Dr Greg and the writers on Witchita. They make bad choices, but as others have said, they're realistic choices and the characters come off as complex rather than negative overall

I'm on ep 6 of season 2 and loving it so far. I don't think anyone is really all that unlikable. I questioned Gus pushing for the relationship when Mickey was trying to step away, but he seems to have proven himself a bit better since.

And I agree that Bertie is far and away the best character on this show with Randy being second.

finished the season. thought it was really great, but i am definitely turning on mickey a bit. while gus has a whole lot of flaws, i find myself really feeling bad for him. mickey completely acknowledges her flaws, but continuously makes the same mistakes. its quite infuriating. that said, the last scene with dustin walking across the screen was maybe the funniest bit in the entire series, well aside from the entire shrooms episode.

    good stuff
