well anyway I finished the show today. gonna have to think a bit on how I feel about the ending, there's some really good stuff about it and some less good

wild that Michael and Walt weren't in the church at the end at all, writers really did not give a shit about those two huh

there's an epilogue of sorts that's considered canon, which explains at least Walt's absence

that was really cool actually, there's some details there I was hoping to see in the finale

on the whole I really love Hurley becoming the new Jacob in the end as he was really the leader of the camp a lot of the time. disliked Jack to the end but his death was a really cool and pretty emotional full circle moment. I'm glad Lapidus and Miles survived too because they turned out super likable even though they never got to do much, same with Richard in the last handful of episodes. most of the resolution to do with the island I liked, except for MIB's big defeat being "eh he's mortal now I guess"

wasn't really huge on Desmond's role at the end, seemed like they were just using him as a walking get out of jail free card instead of really continuing his arc as a character. Sayid and Sawyer got done pretty dirty in the end too (Sawyer's fondest wish just being a cop instead of, I dunno, raising his kid with Cassidy felt off). I don't hate the idea of the alternate universe being basically wish fulfilment, it's done a lot better than some of the detractors would have you believe, but them trying to preserve the twist up until the last minute leads to some awkwardness like Kate's fondest wish apparently being to... still be a fugitive? I never really understood what the writers were doing with her character though lol

I don't see this cracking my list of favourite shows or anything, but I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I was going to in early s1, it's a great example of how a strong mythology and character work can hook you in. shows like Yellowjackets definitely owe a lot to Lost

I did not see their time in purgatory as being wish fulfillment and I'm not sure it was intended to be. That's an interesting way to look at it though.

that was what I took away from Christian saying they all created that universe together, like they were all living the lives they wanted before they could move on to whatever was next? I could very well be misinterpreting though

    Killing Nothing

I saw the flash sideways more as an elaborate construction for them to work through unresolved issues from their actual lives before moving on

I mostly appreciate that this thread has been bumpkin’ lately. I’m in midS4 of probably my 12th-13th rewatch (I’ve lost count) and this is the longest I’ve gone between watches (5 years). Always great, and always catch some small thing I’ve missed previously. Like this time seeing “Kevin Johnson” up out on the boat deck for literally .5 seconds in his hood way before his actual reveal. Is it perfect? Of course not. But so clearly my favorite show all-time

I swear if they had not stuck this image over the end credits for no reason the ending would not be as confusing to 90% of people.

I wouldn't say for no reason and I think they also underestimated how much of their audience were fucking freaks.
