I don’t believe that to be true about satire at all. Plenty of characters in tv shows and movies that satirize a certain culture are often embraced by the culture (Ron Swanson satirizing libertarianism comes to mind), that doesn’t mean the satire was bad or has failed.

That said I’m def leaning toward “kinda cringe” on this one

Ehh, seamless satire is great when it’s great. Like Meatloaf.

but the songs have to be great

Granted I haven't heard the whole thing, but I feel like I'm listening to a different album than everyone else. I love the 3 songs released.

the lyrics are very bad, the music is ok and sometimes pretty good, i liked "fallen fruit" a lot

the new chvrches also has a third track named "california"

i do find it hilarious that they hired one of my favorite session drummers matt chamberlain to play on a very drumless record

I don't think she's recording satire in Larry David's summer house haha

matt chamberlain is the drummer for pearl jam and soundgarden, he’s more than just a “session drummer”

not that theres anything wrong with session musicians. but he’s the drummer of two of the biggest rock bands of our lifetime haha

If I could just forget it

He played for Pearl Jam for a few weeks only and filled in on one Soundgarden tour. He's a session drummer primarily. One of the better ones to be sure.

The message behind it all just feels very directionless to me. There are obvious tongue in cheek lyrical moments but then the entire sound palette (palate?) and music video aesthetics completely toss themselves into it so idk is it even satire

    Sooooooooooooooo

This album is really solid. It's certainly downtempo most of the way, but with plenty of hooks to keep you interested. "Secrets From A Girl" is a big early standout, but also loved "California," "Fallen Fruit" and a few others on first listen.

Was starting to get a bit worried, but this album is really nice. If I have to immediately compare it to her past work, it'll easily be my least favorite album of hers, but that's totally OK. Going to listen to this a lot this summer

    Assume It's A Bit

First impressions are that I don't really love it and that it's very easily my least favorite album from her. There's a few on here I see myself going back to (Fallen Fruit and SATNS), but as a whole it's just kinda... boring IMO

I just listened to all three singles. If light and fluffy is what she’s going for, that’s fine, nothing wrong with that in the summer! But all the songs are just…so incredibly boring
