I don't know if I straight up dislike it but it's definitely the worst of the singles. The pre-chorus feels like a rehash of the pre-chorus in Solar Power with the cadence and vocal melody.

revising my earlier take, this will probably stink

I do get an early 2000's vibe on this though, and the production on it is top notch

Its fine, not interesting at all tho

I had higher expectations for Lorde

Maybe it’s because I skipped work today to lay around and take a “zen” day, but I really enjoyed this.

Idk, I do like it more listening a second time with the video, but I just feel like she nailed it on Solar Power and didn't hit that same mark here. Obviously very heavy on the early 2000s vibe, especially with that lyric. It's not bad but it's already the kind of track I could go my whole life without ever hearing again and not really care.

  8. I don't even like Solar Power as much as I did on initial listens. I don't think this is for me.

Listening to this in Atmos makes it more enjoyable, but I feel like this is just one of those songs that sounds better suited to a razor commercial or something. I feel like this also would've been a great video to kind of spoof the early 2000s, instead of giving off weird cult vibes. That's just me though.

Album is shaping up to be a really nice summer vibe, I like all 3 songs but based on them this certainly will be a less dynamic album which is a bit of a bummer. But I am going to do my best not to simply compare it to Melodrama, which is a ridiculously high bar, and take this album as simply a new album from her and not worry about how much I like it, because I know that I'm going to still like it regardless of her past work

    The rivalry is back on

This is probably my favorite of the 3 but I want more bangers and unless the non-singles take a drastic turn, this will not have that

  12. not ready to write off the record entirely and interested to see how the 3 songs fit overall in the entire listening experience but I've had zero interest in returning to any of them

Really not feeling this 'discless' version which aside from the vinyl edition is the only one available in the UK

£19 for a box, some postcards, a booklet and a download code - in an attempt to create "an environmentally kind, forward-thinking alternative to the CD"

    What's that smell?

Pre-chorus melody to Mood Ring does remind me of Solar Power pre-chorus melody, but I actually really enjoy that melody so I'm ok with that lol. And I very much dig the early-mid 2000s vibes of the track. All 3 songs have hit with me, I dunno if it'll top the powerhouse that is Melodrama but it seems like I'll be enjoying this album very much

I was so excited for this record initially but I feel like that has been waning everyday. I don’t even dislike the songs, they’re nice and pleasant (lyrics aside) and I’m sure the record will hit in a certain mood. But the whole vibe - the songs, the videos, her interviews, the email newsletters - are absolutely Not My Vibe. I really haven’t been able to tell if I should be taking it straight or if it’s supposed to be tongue-in-cheek, but I’ve been leaning towards the former and I find it so obnoxious. Hoping for the best but idk.

Yeah idk its all VERY heavy-handed. I’m really hoping the singles are among the worst on the record.

there's definitely a certain level of privilege in being able to do an internet cleanse and reconnect with nature , not saying she's inherently wrong or anything

Going from something that was so dynamic and energetic, to something that is very stripped down and laid back, is not the direction we thought Lorde would go. This won’t achieve anywhere near the success that Melodrama received IMO, but I’m still curious to see how it plays out. Also curious to see how the songs translate to arenas

is there? putting your phone away and spending time outside after work requires, like, no privilege or wealth to do so? if anything, it's one of the few things anyone regardless of privilege can do together... like, what?

i don't even love the narrative/her persona around this album, but that's a baffling stance imo

To be fair she very intentionally isn’t playing arenas.

It’s not that the nature Flower Child internet-detox thing is so bad, I just honest to god cannot tell how much of it is sincere and how much is a character. Like, she’s eluded to the fact that some of the lyrics on these tracks are tongue-in-cheek, but to what degree?

lorde: I’ve decided to spend less time online and spend more in nature
    the internet: check your privilege

the persona/mythos being built around the album is extremely cringeworthy but that ain’t it
