I've had "The Louvre" on repeat all day because "broadcast the boom boom boom boom and make 'em all dance to it" is simply one of the coolest hooks I've ever heard.

Also, I just realized this song is kind of a jab at the previous song "Homemade Dynamite" which more or less celebrates a head first dive into a super exciting, but damaging relationship via hard partying. "The Louvre" is the realization that the relationship is destructive both for her and her friends, but it feels so good that she keeps going in hopes that she and her lover will be immortalized since she's famous now. And even more, she's going to make her (mostly unaware) audience complicit in her emptiness by writing a catchy song out of the impulsive, destructive feelings of her heart ("broadcast the boom boom boom boom and make 'em all dance to it"). The entire song is really a lot deeper and darker than it initially seems at first.

But really, the writing on this whole album is so self-aware and brilliant and thoughtful and I hope it just blows up.

I'm not thaaaat surprised and those numbers are still great. When I saw her at Coachella no one in my immediate area really knew anything more than Royals and Team, maybe Green Light and the crowd wasn't as big as I thought (although still huge)

I'm pretty sure Lorde listens to full albums. This post is inconsistent until you follow suit.

As an aside, Yellow Flicker Beat is one of her best songs.

  13. nah i get it, nothing to be ashamed. one of my idols is Laura Jane Grace, yet I don't listen to Against Me as often as people think. and when i do, it's mostly the past few albums. i don't think that's a rare case.

I think I'm going to have to accept that Homemade Dynamite is going to be permanently stuck in my head for the rest of my life. Not even mad.

Late on the royals talk, but I still remember hearing that on alt rock / pop radio while closing up the pizza shop in high school and thinking it was so unique compared to everything else on rotation. Not her greatest song by any means but I don't think it's necessarily bad or awful.

The louvre is great, although the chorus is a little off putting at first. Liability is a nice breather. This is wonderful so far

    Loveless is phenomenal

  22. I love the lyrics on Liability so much:

"The truth is I am a toy that people enjoy
til all of the tricks don't work anymore,
and then they are bored of me.
I know that it's exciting running through the night
but every perfect summer's eating me alive until you're gone.
    Better on my own."

  23. The lyricism here in general is really good and interesting--she's really verbose. "Liability" is a cool chorus word, the way "nonchalant" rolls off her tongue in Sober, etc.

Writer in the dark -> Supercut is a great combo, and perfect places is an amazing closer. Glad this lived up to the hype
