The Neon marketing team deserves a raise because this was incredibly dull

I thought this was fine. Definitely a bit of a let down. I thought it looked amazing but I didn’t have a constant feeling of dread like others have said. I feel like they really telegraphed a bunch of stuff like longlegs living in the basement, the mom being involved and it ending at the birthday party. Still enjoyed it though even though the lady in front of me was on her phone almost the entire time.

^ I was that way after the “Paranormal Activity” movies. Even though they were thin on story and formulaic, those really tapped into something for me that a lot of horror really hasn’t done.

Going to see this with a friend tomorrow! I suggested it bc I’m constantly seeing this thread bumped

Something I just considered while talking with a friend about the movie, and was sort of touched upon in here, the whole "Is Lee some sort of psychic/why did they mention her being psychic and then drop it." I'd have to say I agree that I don't think she is, with her pointing out that she failed the test they made her do just as many times as she "passed" it. And yet her colleagues wanted it to be true and pushed that on her in a sense, and part of me thinks that's because she is very clearly neurodivergent in a time period that was not as considering of that as nowadays. So it's probably easier, and more potentially useful to them, to just label her as a "psychic" to not have to think about that any harder. Just my own potential interpretation though.

Walked in pretty excited to see a film people claimed was equal to silence of the lambs. Walked out giving the film the lowest rating of any film I’ve seen this year and that includes the new ghostbusters. This film was just not my cup of tea.

The good news for people this didn’t hit with is there’s a lot stuff in that vein that likely will and there’s still a lot of promising stuff ahead, like “Cuckoo” and “Strange Darling.”

Are there any noticeably effective jump scares in this to keep an eye out for? I've heard it's not that kind of movie but I'm still super sensitive to jump scares and like to be prepared lol

    Psychological/creepy stuff I'm fine with

I think maybe like two instances? It doesn’t really rely on them

The constant dread feeling in this was very strong and made it interesting. Nick Cage is definitely the creepiest thing about this film and he stole the show for me. However the arrest and third act fell flat for me. Too convoluted and honestly could have done without the supernatural explanation. The final scene was incredibly dumb and the actions of Harker didn’t make any sense. I appreciate what this movie tried to accomplish, but I doubt I’ll come back to this.

The one jump scare at the beginning when Cage appears caught my whole theater off guard, seemed like everyone was really dialed in after that lol

This is the one I meant. I just doubted myself about when it took place. lol

Basically what I was getting at with my initial post after first seeing it. Obviously two different films, and not to such an extreme degree, but had similar feelings picking up on it and being relatable that I had with I Saw The TV Glow.

What the fuck is wrong with people other than poor media literacy and not being able to research

EDIT: apparently this started from the guy that wrote about how miss piggy was a domestic abuser lol

the more i think about this the less I like about it lol. feels like oz thinks all of his viewers are five years old and need their hands held through his movies.
