Single sounds fairly generic radio pop to me, and I'm not really digging his voice on it. Which is strange because as not great as they are most of the time his voice has also been the one thing that's pretty strong.

I haven't given a thought to this band in years but I'm interested in hearing the new single. Kiiara is super.

Oh yea added thought, I actually do like Kiiara on it so there's that at least.

Well, at least they actually wrote those songs. This new song was co-written by Julia Michaels (co-wrote Bieber's "Sorry") and Justin Tranter (co-wrote Fall Out Boy's "Centuries").

It really doesn't matter to me who wrote the song tbh, that doesn't factor into my enjoyment of it, I was just pointing out it's not that big a departure from previous poppy singles

I mean, those are both good pop songs.

Co-writers are such a weird thing to dislike. Collaboration is great. If I were a musician, I'd love working with other people, even if I didn't "need" to.

Catching up: Both Living Things and Hunting Party were great, LT had a few of their best songs like Lies, Greed, Misery and Lost in the Echo. The Messenger is an amazing simple song that relays on Chester's voice, always a song I go to when I want to show someone how fantastic of a singer he is. The album art is really cool and the single is ok. They definitely have not gone this pop before, I think if it didn't have the title Linkin Park no one would have ever have guessed it was them. Its nice to see them expand, but they need to have a little more rock and Mike doing his sweet raps as well. They haven't let me down yet so I'm not expecting 9 other versions of this song on the album.

This is pretty funny. I can get why they are frustrated with fans complaining, but it had to be expected. I like the song enough for it to be stuck in my head after hearing it, but I do hope for more of a rock sound on the album.

    No Fun. Not Ever.

Mehh. At I least tried. But I can guarantee I'll just be listening only to Hybrid Theory and Meteora for as long as they last.

From how fast and effortless they did the rock version of Heavy, you can see why they don't care to write songs like that anymore. I can't blame them, it'd just feel like going through the motions.

Ok I went back to the last 3 albums, A Thousand Suns is definitely the best of the batch there, good shit for sure. I actually liked Living Things more than I remembered, so that was a nice surprise. Hunting Party overall just seems kinda lost and meandering, some good spots, but overall mehhhh

Flipping through my local radio stations and hearing my local pop station playing "Heavy" makes me think that this song is going to blow up in all the wrong ways

Edit: what I meant in saying my last statement is this song to me sounds like it should be a Chester solo song. I've always been a fan of this band evolving its sound but especially after seeing their performance of it on Kimmel it just feels like Chester plus some guys on keyboard playing live with him. I feel like if this song gets successful on pop radio and an audience like that it'll be more likely that the band will continue down this type of trajectory for their sound. Hopefully this song isn't indicative of the rest of the album, but based on everything I've read this song isn't a one off.

There's a wrong way for a song to blow up?

Man, I hate when bands I like have surges in popularity.

It bothers me when people say "this just sounds like a (insert vocalist here) solo song/album" because 99.9% of the time that's just code for "I don't like that this is poppier and I don't know how to express it". Not that that's necessarily what you're saying... but I'm just gonna keep reiterating my claim that Heavy is not so different from their previous poppy singles and the seemingly higher degree of backlash this one is getting is just weird. Maybe I'm just paying more attention.

Also, this is quite possibly the band I'm least worried about determining their musical direction by songs that blow up. They really haven't done so before, and they've had numerous massive singles.

They've done poppy before, but I haven't had to see a live performance to wonder "what are the other members in the band doing?" I can't stand the song, don't get me wrong, but I've liked their previous poppy singles. I've been all for their experimentation and sound changes, but this is the first time I feel like they've had serious regression

  20. This is so cheesy, but could've been on Hybrid Theory haha. Shows how little effort they would've to put to go in a more metal direction again.

  21. You didn't feel the same for some of the A Thousand Suns performances ? Some members also took a back seat for that era.

That late night show performance they did had all the band on stage. TBH even though it looked like they were all playing, I dunno if they all were....

At first I did, but the complexity of that album is much more than "Heavy" Hopefully the rest of the album includes them more
