Yeah, but those songs didn't serve as promos for a supposed-to-be hyped up new lead singer replacement for a dead band member.

Hey remember two weeks ago when I said Sleep Token and Bad Omens should be the openers for their stadium tour and people said they weren't big enough? Look at that! A stadium show with Bad Omens opening.

I know nothing about Bad Omens, other than everytime I see their name/logo, all I can think about is the whole Senses Fail tour poster fiasco.

Mike doing the verses and Chester doing the chorus was pretty typical for their song structures in the early days, sometimes Chester opened with the chorus right after the instrumental intro.

One of their biggest singles "faint" follows the same structure as the new song. Mike doing verses, the other singer doing chorus and screams during the bridge.

OK? If they still had good production quality, they would've built up hype with at least a hum or something from the female at the beginning, followed by mike rapping, building up more hype to the new female vocalist... whatever, I guess I'm used to overproduced mainstream trash since I stopped listening to vintage to "adapt"

“linkin park should write a promo song that’s not how they would otherwise write because they have a new singer”

So the new singer is not part of Linkin Park? She has no agency or impact on the songwriting? /s

    Song is quite good.

I think it's funny that some of the talk has been of them going back to the sound of their first two albums, when what we've heard so far clearly (to me) most resembles Living Things. The heavier bridge maybe leans a bit more towards Meteora? But, in general, it's not really a reversion to some early sound that hadn't been heard in the rest of their time with Chester.

It is certainly "safe," but it's also their first album in seven and a half years, after a post-tragedy hiatus, with a modified line-up that includes a new co-lead vocalist. So, feeling things back out was always going to be a natural, appropriate part of this. And, to my tastes, that new vocalist is enough to still make this all sound fresh, and a lot more interesting than Living Things. (Sonically, at least; insert obligatory caveats about Scientology and everything disgusting that ties into here.)

I do like how Mike and Emily have been paired so far. Having Emily come in at the second verse of the first song was smart as a transition into a new era, and I like the second single having the classic Mike-on-verses-and-other-singer-on-rest structure. Will be interesting to see if they hit all the permutations, including all-Mike and all-Emily. And, also to see what singing-to-rapping ratio Mike does.

  14. Curious about the scream or "growl" Mike supposedly does somewhere on the album as well

Who on earth said this? I posted in the tour thread as well, but this tour is going to insane for tickets. Crazy intense fan bases all the way down, and bad omens took a touring hiatus so it'll be crazy. Sleep token and bad omen fans will go just for those bands even if LP drives the cost up.

I personally love the structure of the 2 songs with Mike starting them off and then Emily coming in at the chorus. Smart song writing getting to anticipate what the new vocals are going to be like. I'll edit this later if my misogyny is showing.

EDIT - I should pay more attention. Only 3 dates and Bad Omens / Sleep Token don't overlap. I figured it was a whole tour with all 3.

I unfortunately really like it. Feels like it’s really pandering to fans of the first two albums, but I’m the target audience for that, so it works. It’s bordering on being a little too similar to Faint though.

I wish they would bring back record scratches. Is that seen as dated now? I don't know if other bands even do that anymore

Controversy aside about Emily, listened to more Dead Sara today and really enjoyed it. I had only really remembered listening to "Weatherman" back in 2012 when it came out, but love how 90s alt rock their stuff is.
