the thing about Devil is I figured Jean had written some of the band's good riffs but I didn't know he wrote ALL the good riffs

Nu Romantics, Good Mourning America, Who You Are Not, Foreign Cab Rides, and Elephant are still pretty decent but even those tracks pale in comparison to almost any song off TBB.

  4. I ended up liking some of that album in the end, especially the bluesish songs but they didn't need that radio rock production at all.

I still wish we'll get a remix of TBB one day. This would actually be my favorite if I didn't want to turn it off halfway through the opener.

I enjoy about half of Devil and half of TBB at this point. If you combined those two albums and have them good production, I would actually like it.

Until then, Fake History is all that really matters to me and I wish this band would come back into my life and make some that good again.

Yeah the mixing and mastering of the album is so focused on the low-mid frequencies that there’s not a lot of vibrancy or range to the guitars and drums. And the bass is so muddled and just there for texture.

Really wondering who my dream producer for that album would have been, maybe terry date

They should have gone with Will Putney, who did Every Time I Die’s Low Teens. Kurt Ballou would have been an awesome choice too.

Kurt would have made the drums absolutely massive, which would be a good choice for what they were going for. Just wish it had a more arena-ready sound, rather than radio-filtered

I’m not sure an area-ready sound would work for letlive. I think they should have chosen someone who would bring life out of the chaos. Those songs don’t sound at all like a band trying to fill arenas.

I think you could achieve both honestly! I personally think the songs are massive and have a very anthemic quality to them amidst the chaos, something I can’t say about a lot of Ballou/Putney productions (ETID have a lot of anthemic songs don’t get me wrong). Virgin Dirt, Younger, That Fever Fever would be the ones that benefit the most from the change in production, and I would like to see how it changes the sound

Did anyone ever listen to the other Pressure Cracks material? That first ep was pretty fire.

  12. This band has such a weird discography when you think about it. They only got it right on Fake History.

They captured lightning in a bottle with that one. It's weird reading about why they chose the sonic direction they did on TBB because Jason specifically mentioned how fans thought FH was "over-produced" and I'm not exactly sure why anyone would think that because I think that album sounds phenomenal and doesn't take away from the songs at all.

I honestly don't despise If I'm the Devil but Fake History is objectively their best and the fact they got it then and couldn't keep the same level is unfortunate.

I personally think The Blackest Beautiful is their magnum opus in terms of songwriting but Fake History is their best sounding record production-wise.

I’d say TBB is like another level on fake history, and I will never understand why my ears can’t hear the flaws everyone else hears because it sounds dope to me. But, the last record and the headlining tour I saw them on was just a bummer. The album was lackluster and Jason didn’t even really have that much energy on stage which is literally what we all came to expect from him.

Seeing ll. and Conditions at St. Vitus will forever be one of my fav shows

  18. TBB definitely was a master class in songwriting, but Fake History is an inarguable classic

  19. I definitely have read this too many times over the last decade. It's mostly people comparing it to Glassjaw's supposedly rawer albums. Worship & Tribute sounds as polished as Fake History so I don't understand but hey :/

I've only seen them once, in 2011 as an opener for Enter Shikari. My brother and I, and the entire crowd, were just... completely blown away. Jason started running, screaming, kicking, doing back flips and grinding (edit: climbing! wrong word) on stage props by the very first song and never stopped. He was sweating so much he was also down to his underwear by the end of the show lol.

I had seen live footage in the years prior, yet I still wasn't ready for this. He was mostly in the crowd, moshing with random people, encouraging some to push him so he'll then have enough speed to do some jump tricks and shit. The funniest thing is, I don't even remember how their show sounded (aside from the bridge chants in "Muther"), as it was just total chaos. When it ended, there were many people looking at each others and saying "what the hell just happened?".

Even if I don't consider it as one of my favorite shows ever, I never got that feeling ever again and I don't know if I ever will.

I first saw them open for Underoath on their farewell tour. On a co-headline with Architects. Warped Tour 2013 ATL. And then open for BMTH. Each time had it's share of moments and were all great. The warped tour set was I think my favorite. They were playing as the sunset and it just nailed it. I really want to catch Fever 333 if the come close to me in a smaller venue. Hopefully on a headline set. I threw on Blackest Beautiful yesterday and that was a good car ride home.

First time I saw them was when they opened up for Underoath on their farewell tour in 2013. I had no idea who they were, but they stole the show for me. I immediate bought Fake History on cd after the show and got to meet Jason which was really cool. Wish I had bought the album on vinyl instead though and got him to sign it, but it was still a cool experience.

Next time I saw them was at Warped 2013 in PA/NJ, which is probably my least favorite set I saw of theirs’. They got bumped up to the main stage that day and were one of the first bands playing for the day at, like, 11am and the energy wasn’t quite there for most of the set, but Jason went absolutely off for 27 Club and Renegade 85. Dude was doing flips like nobody’s business.

Last time I saw them was in 2014 on their co-headliner with Architects at a small Philly venue. That was probably my favorite show I’ve seen of theirs’ if only because it was the longest set I’d seen them play and because it was more intimate of a venue. Could not have cared less for the openers, aside from I The Mighty who I was sorta into at the time, but letlive was worth it. Walked out with a setlist from that night, which I still have.

Never saw them again after that because I wasn’t into TBB that much anymore after about a year of listening to it. I still don’t think I’ve listened to it from front to back since, like, 2014/2015. Wasn’t into If I’m The Devil so I skipped out on their farewell tour (if they even did one). Kinda wish I saw them one more time because they were one of my favorite bands in 2013/2014, but oh well.

Wasn’t there that mix of a song or two from TBB that had a totally different production? I remember someone posted it, and it sounded so much better.

  24. They posted versions with different vocalists on a specific part that had a crazy different mix. It still wasn't a great mix, but everything was much clearer.
