It was not mean, at least not compared to the things said to me regularly, and I did not delete it.

I assume the same place that my review of The Impossible went, something no one ever bothered to explain for me.

Something I had originally intended to say: it is always weird to hear young people talk about movies in terms of actors. It just seems like such a carryover from an earlier generation to decide whether or not to watch a movie based on what movie star reads the lines. There is not really a standard to judge: the Very Important Actors like Daniel Day-Lewis and Meryl Streep have been in awful films, and Adam Sandler was in Punch-Drunk Love.

i agree that In general directors are infinitely more important to a film buts its understandable considering how they are marketed and the director is mostly unseen. Plus did u see brads abs in fight club???

You can still enjoy a performance in a so-so film. There are an endless number of reasons to enjoy a movie.

And it's not like great directors don't make average movies either.

I'm not exactly sure where the criticism comes from. Or the idea for that matter. This is the first time I've even encountered the idea that it's the younger generation that favors actors.

I just watched 50 Dead Men Walking. I had to turn subtitles on, but for the most part it was pretty good. I'm not educated enough on the history behind it to say whether I think the IRA or British were responsible, but the movie did a good job of portraying the evils of both sides and it made me want to do a little more research into it.

You have a much better idea of what a film is going to be about and its quality based on director rather than the actor. If we stick with Nicolas Cage, you are going from David Lynh and the Coen brothers at one extreme, heavy into genre with people like John Woo and Simon West, and then into the darkest corners of quality with National Treasure director Jon Turteltaub. This is where the frustration comes; if you refuse to watch a Cage film, you are striking down almost every sort of film ever made.

I certainly won't refuse to see a movie based on an actor, even Jared Leto, but some actors taste in projects can be interesting to follow, like 90s Tom Cruise and current Kristen Stewart.

Even Jared Leto managed to be in The Thin Red Line somehow.

Cruise falls into a small handful of actors who are bigger than the films they are in, mainly due to clout and/or producer credit. You still would see a huge difference between Top Gun and Magnolia, and even within a series like Mission: Impossible the Brian de Palma impact is bigger in the first one than the directorial stamp in the later ones.

    Bone Tomahawk

Were you dissatisfied with the amount of blood in There Will be Blood? or found no country for old men's ending to lofty and confusing well then watch The Proposition and if that still wasn't straight forward and gruesome for you watch Bone Tomahawk.

BT blends western and horror by creating a savage subhuman tribe of Indians with no-moral grey area, they're just straight evil mixed in with a dusty bone ritual predator vibe. Theres still some classic horror shots that telegraph whos about to die but theres a couple of things i didn't see coming. The Other characters not get any progression or anything but they serve their purpose, Kurts got his sick stasche from Hateful 8, old dudes pretty funny and boast lines like "why didnt anyone tell the mayor?" "oh Kurt told me to, but im old and i forgot" loooool, theres a sharp dressed Indian hater whos racism gets justified and the cripple who loves his hot wife.

Id found the classic western tracking saga very vanilla and could of been spiced up with more snappy dialogue but shined blending in the horror/Indian elements and violence unfortunately it came too late.

Pretty damn disappointed. Say what you will about Zombie's previous films, they're all uniquely his. This felt like it was built from the leftover scraps of his Corpses films. Pretty awful dialogue, flimsy plot. Two of the biggest things that I enjoy about Zombie's films are his ability to create memorable villians and his ability to create atmosphere. The usage of an abandoned factory was so uninspired save a few choice framing techniques. The sets of Devils and Corpses were lovingly crafted while this felt built on a shoestring budget. No setpieces to cling to. Doom Head (fuck the names were all so stupid) was the only interesting character in the film and the majority of his dialogue fell flat. At least Richard Brake was dedicated to the part. None of the "protagonists" (if you can call them that with what little time was dedicated to them) could be differentiated from each other. Sheri Moon didn't even have enough lines for me to call her awful.

I hear there's an "uncut" version or something that is hopefully better, but I'm let down.

Monkey Business is a silly movie, but I liked how sweet it was. Cary Grant is a hell of a comedic performer.
