as others have pointed out Creep already stole the melody from Air That I Breathe, Thom Yorke is a genius but also kind of a dick

This lawsuit is ludicrous. There are only so many chords in western music. I don’t think Lana should’ve offered Radiohead a dime to begin with. I love Radiohead but as a musician, I will take great pleasure in watching them lose this case.

 

Get Free and Creep. I never noticed before, but i do kind of hear it. Still doesn't seem quite similar enough to really warrant the lawsuit to me.


Side note: i got a jury form to fill out a couple weeks ago. I don't know if a jury is used on this kind of trial but if it is, now would be the time to use me @United States Government.

 

Yeah Radiohead is my favorite band but this is stupid. ESPECIALLY asking for 100%

 

why would they not have just settled for 40%? lmao they're radiohead, they couldn't possibly be hurting for money

 

And honestly that's pretty cool of Lana that she was even willing to give that much to begin with. And it's not like this is ever going to be a hit Lana song so the stakes aren't even that high haha

Just heard about this, and like yea the verses sound a BIT like Creep but come on man, a lawsuit? 100% of the publishing rights? I love radiohead but fuck off

 

I do think the two songs sound extremely similar, but there shouldn't be a lawsuit. Art inspires other art. There are enough differences between the two songs, and they have entirely different lyrics. Really a disgusting move on Radiohead's end, imo. 100% rights is especially ridiculous.

 

I feel like asking for 100% of the publishing rights is so ridiculous on the face of it that I'm a little skeptical she's being fully forthright. That isn't a judgment on either her or Radiohead's honesty but just that I feel like Radiohead would have better legal advice from their team than to try that, they have to know they couldn't possibly get 100%.

Tbh I wouldn't be *shocked* if Radiohead are eventually credited as CO-WRITERS not sole writers because I do think the songs are pretty damn similar, but 100% of publishing is never gonna happen. Also, if Radiohead are awarded co-writing credits, wouldn't Albert Hammond and Mike Hazlewood of The Hollies also have to receive royalties, since they are credited as co-writers of "Creep"? This whole thing gets very complicated very fast lol

 

(Also side note: I've always thought it funny/cool that the father of a member of The Strokes is legally a co-writer of Radiohead's "Creep". Small world lol)

Something seems missing here. I really don't think Lana would make that up. Maybe a misunderstanding of whether or not there is a lawsuit, but I feel like Radiohead's publisher is leaving out some key details.

 

That’s certainly possible. I still feel like 100% is so absurd that they wouldn’t try that, maybe it really is a misunderstanding.
