I understand the sentences, I just don’t like them.

Probably going to steal this take. I like how her and Jack still fit the ear candy in there (those detuned guitars sitting back in the mix on “Not All Who Wander Are Lost”, yow) so that it feels like the quieter, more inward twin of NFR. Outside of “LMLYLAW” I actually can’t picture her singing many of these songs on stage. “White Dress” is such a great opening scene setter.

I like this quite a bit. As @cshadows2887 said, it doesn't knock you over like NFR, but it's a nice counterpart to that album.

I went in with lower expectations, but I should've known I'd end up loving it. It's maybe not as consistent as her best work, but the highs are still really high, and the whole thing is enjoyable. I'm glad that she tried some different stuff out, and I agree with the last few posts that this was a good direction after NFR. It doesn't feel like she's trying to outdo that, but instead is letting this breathe as it's own thing. White Dress, Tulsa Jesus Freak, and Yosemite are the highlights for me right now, and the bridge of Dance Til We Die is so cool (even though parts of the song feel a little clunky)

Enjoyed this a ton except for white dress. Yosemite was the highlight on first listen.

How can you not think "White Dress" is anything other than the cat's pajamas?

has anyone called out how "Wild At Heart" literally reuses the same instrumental as "How to disappear" but with the drums like muted? pretty cool.

Now that I read the Pitchfork review, it's actually quite good.

The "aesthetic howitzer" part someone quoted seems to be deliberately leaning into the idea of Lana's songwriting-as-density-of-image, using that as a formal technique for that section of the review. The writer definitely piles on the nouns and adjectives but as a series of markers it works like a hyper white Americana moodboard, which supports her point. (And while a little unwieldy for reading, it's only in one paragraph.)

He's known for the idea that smell is the sense that brings forth the most "buried" and long-lost memories.

ah well i guess scent does work into the books a lot and i was getting it confused with the proustian madeline trope, which involves taste. it's all sense memory i guess lol

Craig Jenkins kills it as usual. This might come off kind of silly but I like writers who are good at describing how music sounds.

Lana has never done anything for me and I don’t get it. That being said, this album seems a bit different and I casually enjoyed it while in the car. Not sure how much I will revisit it.

Uhhhhh...okay. We are switching eras real quick here. New album "Rock Candy Sweet" out June 1. She confirmed it's a new album on her Instagram story.
