Recently I was able to connect with EDM artist and producer, Kappekoff, who just released a great new single and video for “Late Night” that features Pasha. I asked this artist about the inspiration behind the single and the video treatment, as well as where he expects the rest of his music to follow next. Kappekoff is releasing his new LP called Old Spring on November 15th and you can pre-save it here.

What inspired the creation of “Late Night”? Are there any personal experiences or stories behind the song?

The inspiration behind “Late Night” really came from wanting to capture that nostalgic, feel-good energy you get from classic disco but infuse it with a modern electronic twist. I imagined it as a soundtrack for late-night city vibes, with a rooftop party feel. Pasha added his unique touch with lyrics inspired by a vibe like Common & Armand’s “Full Moon” – a rooftop DJ and MC creating a high-energy atmosphere. We wanted to make a track that felt fun and upbeat, and the idea of blending hip-hop with disco just felt like a natural, fresh direction for us.

What kind of visual style or aesthetic did you aim for in the video? Are there any specific influences or inspirations?

For the video, Jørgen Klüver and I wanted to keep that retro feel but with a modern edge. The concept was to style it like a 90s sitcom, where the humor and energy are light and fun. At the same time, we took inspiration from an iconic Beastie Boys album cover to keep things bold and visually striking. It was about creating something that not only complements the song but also makes you feel like you’re back in that nostalgic era.

How does this project set the stage for your future work? Are there any new directions you’re excited to explore?

”Late Night” is part of my new album Old Spring, which marks a bit of a shift in my artistic direction. Moving forward, I’m excited to continue blending genres and experimenting with what Kappekoff can be. I love exploring the middle ground between commercial and artistic music, and working with rap artists on more uptempo disco tracks is something I’d love to do more of.
