Kanye West - ye & Kids See Ghosts (June 1 & 8 2018) Album • Page 69

  1. He’s not “preaching positivity,” he’s tweeting out tired platitudes like “we don’t love each other enough” while tweeting support for xenophobia. That’s the “disconnect”

Any philanthropic efforts don't mean shit when you're wearing a hat emblematic of xenophobia. No sympathy

I’ve found in my life negativity only breeds more negativity. Ye is speaking some philosophy 101 shit but love is definitely harder than hate. It’s easy to be hateful, especially to someone you yourself find to be hateful in their own right.

i gotta say it is extremely easy to LOVE EVERYONE without actually loving everyone, which it seems to me is what preaching positivity while wearing a white supremacist symbol means

As he says he’s trying to reappropriate it. His ego is obviously huge, as he is trying to undertake a Herculean effort. I get what he is saying. He views himself as a modern day MLK. His mother has even been quoted as saying the same.

It’s been divisive so far. But I see him trying to unify.

TI and ye are both shit on this song lol

I’m still sure the album will be fine but I care less and less about it every day which sucks because before all of this kanye was the only artist whose new music truly felt like an event for me

this isn't a totally one-to-one comparison but it's like deciding you're gonna reappropriate the confederate flag

no one wants to do that bc it would serve no one to whom that flag represented their dehumanization

I read it as those who want to unite to stop all the things people are saying he is aligning himself with. Hatred. Bigotry. Racism. Poverty. Violence.

    The people.

one way people could stop aligning him with legitimate hate causes would be for him to stop asking us to

He's not trying to combat it if he's preaching for it, and not challenging anything it currently stands for. There's no combat, he is for it, which he has made clear multiple times. You're trying to rationalize because it doesn't compute to you that he would be supportive of such a hateful movement.

You're giving him the benefit of the doubt about his intentions, which doesn't even matter because negative effects of his actions still occur despite even good intentions. Candace and her far right, toxic, illogical, manipulative, paid for by the Mercers to divide people probably views are now much more legitimized because of a Kanye cosign. The GOP are using his tweets to fundraise and sell hats. These people will do nothing to spread positivity or make actual impacts in the world, just continuing to stockpile money for the rich and pass policies that jeopardize people in poor communities. Ye is helping them, no matter how many bullshit empty meaningless "we have to love each other" tweets he posts.

Cool. You don't get a "say whatever you want without being called out for it" pass for giving to charity. That's a manipulation tactic, that if someone is doing something good they can't also be doing something bad, or we should allow them to continue doing harmful shit. Its illogical, its lazy, it doesn't make any sense, and we're both wasting our time if you want to die on this hill.

Ye lifting up people calling activists babies, racism a mentality and not a reality, breaking up families, hurting poor communities, defending violent extremism, ignoring violence constantly committed in their name, is not breeding positivity. Its normalizing negativity, violent negativity, that is actively making the world a worse place. Its harder to love than hate, but these people he's aligning with are not even attempting to love, but to continue to spread division, hatred, and violence, and Ye on their side is not changing a damn thing.

    lmao i had no idea

  18. Yeah, I mean, I don't really give a shit about his intentions. The material consequences of his actions have been to expand the audience of vile people and give Trump ammo. He's not actually doing anything to reappropriate the things he says he is, he's just wearing it, and saying "nah, it doesn't mean what every other person who wears it thinks it means, it means the opposite, because I say so!"

That's nice, but it isn't doing anything good, and it's doing many bad things.

  20. Honestly I wasn't that passionate about Kanye just being a milquetoast Trump guy, I mean I knew it was bad but I kinda just viewed it as another one lost. But the idea that people think his actions are having the opposite effect of what they actually are, just because he said so, really makes me mad

This goes back to the victim/victor bullshit, a mentality that is entirely based on the lie that there is nothing bad in the world and everyone is honest and free from hatred, that racism is a myth created by (????), and that no one will ever harm anyone else unless you think they will. That the only reason anyone suffers is because they think they are suffering and its their fault now so they deserve to suffer. Any outside actions are nonexistent, and each person is in a vacuum, totally unaffected by the actions of others, and also the larger society as a whole and the systems in place that have been built up and maintained for all of human history. There's so much bullshit you have to swallow and truth to ignore for it to even be a concept.

And the actual dynamic is sound when reversed. A victor doesn't sit back and ignore injustice, they fight against it, they organize, they make changes so less people are victims of human created bullshit and society can improve. A victim blames themselves for any hardship and decides that nothing can be done to change it, only that it is their fault and they deserve to suffer. Candace on some high level projection.
