It can be fuck everyone defending him except for obviously not the people directly hurt by him because that relationship is much more complex

If you want to have a positive word for him but aren't involving the very real negative things he did that had wide ranging affects on individuals than like, fuck that

 

you can say a positive word without defending his actions

this is way more nuanced than you’re making it out to be

 

I just don't agree with this part, if you say a positive word without bringing up the hugely fucked up shit he did, and based his career and image around, I think that as a whole is bad, and part of the reason abuse so often is erased

I think it is very nuanced, especially for kids who did find like meaning and support in those songs, but there are also kids who find justification for their anger and for the abuse of others, creating a huge amount of negativity. There is a ton of nuance, and leaving it at general positive platitudes is not capturing the full picture.

I mean, obvious except for the people directly tied to the scenario. I'm mainly talking about the fanboys here.

 

i can see where you're coming from. at the same time, due to what ive seen the victim say, im not gonna go around saying fuck everybody that liked/s him. people who think hes innocent, fuck em, people who ignore everything he did, fuck em. i certainly wont be listening to any song hes on past or future. but i just feel most comfortable dealing with this one internally now. i understand others will still be vocal

 

Wasn’t the victim’s tweet basically saying “Don’t tell me how to feel about this. I’m not relieved because xxx is dead.”?

 

I don't want to reach out and like shit on anyone who was a fan, but I don't want to be encouraging all the people ignoring all the awful, terrible shit he did.

I have a friend who like is way into him, despite knowing all the terrible shit he did and that he was a legitimately awful person. The answer there is that you can't choose what music affects you, but you can try to be informed and support people who are that fucked up. But then also now he just like randomly died you're only supporting the fucked up record label who exploited his violence as a marketing tool. The whole situation is a reflection of our very toxic society, an idolization of fucked up celebrities, and a refusal to come to terms with any real accountability for people who make something that people like.

Honestly some of you guys know my thoughts on sometimes trying to still give music an open mind even if I dislike the artist’s personal views... but at this point I don’t think I can stomach continuing to give Kanye any kind of support. I’m just so disappointed at all the awful people and ideas he continues to give support to, and obviously he’s going to have an impact in doing so.

If he’s doing it because he truly believes in these things, that’s awful... but (potential hot take) if he’s doing it because he doesn’t care and just wants to get a rise out of people, in my mind that may actually be worse. I hope one day he’ll take a look in the mirror and see how much damage he’s doing from the platform he has, but I’m not holding my breath.

It's always gonna be fuck XXX. The hardest part I struggled with re: his death is seeing people celebrate the death of a young POC due to gun violence. Maybe that's a privileged position to take, but it's always going to leave a questionable taste in my mouth, even if I am happy he's not able to abuse others anymore.
