I definitely think holding it to the first ten tracks he premiered would have helped with its cohesion, although several of the ones after are quality. Also I feel that the very problematic shit he was saying in early 2016 seemed like somewhat of a turning point, for me at least, idk

I never got a half assed feel from Pablo. Messy, absolutely, but nothing there feels half assed whatsoever

    What about his lyrics tho

A lot of them are awful. He has moments where he just mumbles and never writes anything. It feels rushed and unfinished in so many ways, slapped together and just put out.

  5. Maybe half assed is the wrong word, I mean like the mumbling verses and weak lyrics and shit.

Mumbles? Where besides fade, the best song on the album? The lyrics are bad but that doesn't mean they're half assed

I'll probably never agree with the hive mind about that album as it's my third favorite so I'll just stop talking about it

  8. Nerdwriter is my favorite.

    Film Radar is also good.

JMR does nice and short videos.

I like Movies with Mikey, even though he goes a bit crazy with the editing sometimes.

I don’t think there’s any consensus hive mind on TLOP. I was one of very few who didn’t think think it was top tier Ye at the time.

Ultralight Beam was the first one that came to my mind

What verse is mumbled? I vaguely remember him like humming along to the melody at one point but not really mumbling a verse

yeah the humming is where written stuff would go, its a mumble track that he never rerecorded. It works in that song, mainly because Chance carries the lyrical weight of the whole thing, but that doesn't mean it wasn't some low effort unfinished rushed stuff from Ye.

Take arms, it'll all blow over Prestigious

Ultralight Beam is a top 3 kanye track even still... nothing here comes close

What? Where did you ever hear anything like this, I feel like you just made it up...

Mumble tracks are a known thing, right? Artists go in and work out a melody and then play it back to get ideas going. This is like a thing.

I remember reading that he went into the studio with the ultralight beam/God's dream part and just recorded it right away, and they just used it instead of going back and writing more.

Reference tracks? I suppose a mumble track could be a thing, but I haven't heard of it before. I still don't know what part of the final version of ULB has mumbling though

Or he was just humming along to the melody? Ultralight beam is the worst example you could use of a half assed song. It came together in the last couple weeks of recording sure, but if you read the story of its creation, everyone involved was working their asses off around the clock for days to make it happen

But that initial Ye take didn't change, he just had more people work on it. Its one of his best songs, definitely my favorite on that album, but also he's barely on it.

Vocally but Pablo more than any album shows kanyes main focus isnt and doesn't have to be vocals. he's a producer, a composure, he's more about the sound and the feel more than anything. Don't think you could argue either of those are half assed on Pablo

I can argue that the lyrics are half assed, and a lot of them are.

That doesn't make the album half assed.

    hey you lil piss baby

Half assed is such a weird thing to say. Like, what measurement are you using to determine how much effort was put in?

The measurement is an ass, so half ass is 50% of an ass

I said rushed, unfinished, and slapped together, and my biggest complain was still focused on the lyrics. I stand by all that. Ya'll can fight about how much of ass was put into it but I don't think it goes anywhere.
