Yeah I'm not sold she's going to make a big pivot necessarily. These could easily just be features scratching that itch.

Maren's always been more pop radio leaning though. It didn't surprise me at all that she was the one with the massive crossover single.

Also, not to dismiss an artist whose music I love, but Kacey has never looked comfortable performing "High Horse".

Honestly, kacey doesn’t really have a great stage presence... adore her music but was just sort of “whelmed” with the concert I saw.

I've seen her twice and she's great, but yeah... She always seems...... High. Lol. Not great stage presence.

The Kacey show I saw (during the Pageant Material era) was really fantastic. She was leaning all the way into the country kitsch at that point, and the show reflected it. She probably was a little high, haha, but she sounded fantastic and was funny and relaxed with her crowd banter and stage presence. She doesn’t really strike me as having the “pop star” presence, and “High Horse” always felt to me like it might be a little awkward live (didn’t get to see her on the Golden Hour tour, but that song just doesn’t scream “great live song” to me), but her stage persona is just so perfectly her that I don’t really care.

I feel like there was none of that persona at the Golden Hour show i saw, haha. She and the band sounded fantastic, but that was pretty much it.
I wasn’t expecting super theatricality or anything. But she just had zero stage presence. It was just a little odd to me.

Yeah, could be that she wasn't totally comfortable with playing bigger venues yet, or could have been an off night. But she was pretty delightful on the Pageant Material tour. Fun and self-deprecating.

She was super laid back and did some excellent banter at the Copenhagen show I saw back in 2018. She did "Rainbow" --> "Neon Moon" --> "High Horse" for the encore and I remember thinking it worked really well separating those last two songs from the main set.

My guess is that the "Neon Moon" cover she did for the latest Brooks & Dunn album is a good indication of where she's headed - leaning more into the pop aesthetic but with enough country flavor to keep the yeehaw brand going.

could absolutely see not being comfortable on the larger stages. It was still a nice night- outdoor venue in Boston with some lovely music, a good friend, and some beers. Best way to see a show.

Nice. I saw her in a 1,600-cap theater in the dead of February. She probably won't be playing venues that small anymore! Saw Maren Morris and Jason Isbell at the same spot over the years, and they also seem to have graduated to bigger rooms.

Saw her at a rodeo during the Same Trailer era. Very laid back show even though it was a large arena. Good time

Saw her twice during Golden Hour touring and I fully enjoyed myself each time.

I don't really know what to expect from the next album, but I don't know that she's going to go full on pop music. I'm sure I'll love whatever it is though

Saw her at the Shrine in LA with Willie Nelson just after Pageant Material came out. Can’t think of a better bill/venue/time in her career to see her.

I saw her at the Orpheum touring Pageant Material and it was one of the better shows I've seen. It was intimate and she was warm and relaxed and told some stories. She just lacks that pop-star showmanship gene. Which is fine.

See, I very much wish I saw her in that setting and for those songs. Hard to share your personality when the crowd’s ballooned to 3000 and multiple nights in major markets and amphitheaters in the summertime.

    Wonderful interview.

    Highlights

    -Album this year
-She's written 39 songs, and at the time of the interview, was working on the big closer for the new album
-Album is structured as, and themed around, tragedy
    -Same team as Golden Hour
-"Soon she was thinking of Romeo and Juliet and the idea of being “star-crossed,” and the revelation that, of the 39 songs she’d thus far written over the course of the past few years, she could figure out which ones to use if she structured the album like a tragedy, grouping the songs into acts. Suddenly, the album that had seemed fairly nebulous began to take real shape in her mind. “It’s crazy because you have to just wait on it,” she says of that moment. “You can’t ask for it.”

Lyric excerpt from "Star Crossed", the current closer:

    Let me set the scene
Two lovers ripped right at the seams
Woke up from the perfect dream
    And then the darkness came
    Signed the papers yesterday
You came and took your things away
I moved out of the home we made
And gave you back your name

Apparently she wants a guest appearance from Carlos Santana on it.
