Speaking of Woody fucking Allen, he was interviewed recently by THR and of course he side stepped the question again (only after being called out about it multiple times, once even by Dylan Farrow herself)

And I'm sorry but music doesn't exist in a vacuum and sometimes the circumstances surrounding the music matters and gives a reason as to why the album falls flat in the ears of listeners who want more out of their artists

  3. Nobody gives a shit about whether Justin Timberlake is going to be fine lol it's about shitty journalism and critique within mainstream publications. We really don't need to act obtuse about this

all music publications should drop reviews entirely is my view but that's another thing entirely.

Exactly. Get hype when a smaller band you like gets shafted or ignored or embarrassed because that could legitimately affect their careers.

Idk why anyone is even reading a Pitchfork review of JT since they kinda laid out their narrative when the album was announced but w/e

Stop complaining about their negative review of an artist everyone’s already heard about and check out the smaller artists they hyped up today! Already posted about it in here!

And if you do like the album it seems like a waste of time to complain about the reviews when you can talk about what you do like with people here and on forums all over the internet. I love the new fall out boy album but the critical concensus was decided off the two weak singles, whatever doesn't bother me, I'd rather discuss on this forum with people what we do and don't like about the album than read another three star rolling stone review.

man this album is not good folks

just feels overly labored to me in the same way Magna Carta Holy Grail did for Jay-Z to draw one comparison

There are too many ideas going on at once and it doesn't have the effortless feel that his first two albums and parts of 20/20 did. it's not the worst trash I've ever heard or anything but idk I mostly found this just hard to get through. the length certainly doesn't help

yeah the problem here for me isn't that it's unlistenable it's that's it's so pedestrian and boring in its poor execution of ideas and given JT's precious albums I expect much, much more especially with the kind of budget he gets to work with. I want my big budget albums to be good, way too many are sterile and this is one of those.

the Magna Carta comp isn't perfect but it's just the first thing I thought of in terms of overly bloated albums by superstars late in the careers struggling to come up with enough ideas to fill a tracklist

It's almost exactly like Magna Carta. Suffers from the same messaging problem too, jay had nothing to say on that album and JT has nothing to stay here. Jay learned his lesson and made a huge statement in 4:44, maybe JT will bounce back and do the same given the reception it's getting

it's weird too because this album was supposed to be his personal and introspective album a la a 4:44

but for a number of reasons (his well documented p awful lyricism, his lack of a truly compelling story to tell, etc.) it just doesn't really work

Idk, I thought the "overrated" entry on Margo Price was pretty fair. She consistently got number one placements on country/Americana lists for an album that was solid but unspectacular. Her album got put on a pedestal because she was willing to make political statements that other people in the genre weren't, not because the songs were anything special by themselves. It was telling when Rolling Stone Country put her album at number one but couldn't find a song from it to rank in their top 25 tracks. The Uproxx blurb highlighted a dozen superior albums that got way less hype.

The Price album does not "suck," and I don't think the Uproxx piece was saying it did. It just got anointed the "cool country album to put on lists" title for 2017 when there were at least 30 albums in the genre that were better.

Aside from Supplies, this is the first JT album I have liked in full.

    Mine is a lot like Craig's -->

    Sauce
    Man of the Woods
    Higher Higher
    Morning Light
    Say Something
    Filthy
    Montana
    Breeze off the Pond
    The Hard Stuff
    Young Man

Filthy has grown a lot on me as a song, but I really think it would be a great song if it were shorter. It's just really long for what it is. As an opener it's really cumbersome to me.

Oh, and even as someone who loves cheesy things, Flannel is just too much of a joke even for me. I just picture Andy Samberg in a video for it with JT. it doesn't seem like a real song.

The fact that he *reportedly* wants to include a hologram of Prince is hilarious/insulting considering

    1. Prince hated his ass

    2. He even later attempted to come for Prince with a weak diss in a song

the fact that he's going to get to play paisley park too is so fucked

someone said this on twitter but it'd be like if you died and then a person you didn't fuck with got to throw a party at your house

the majority of shit the individuals handling prince's estate have signed off on is upsetting

Honestly the fact that he gets to play the super bowl after what he did to Janet is fucking disgusting

And add the fact that most of the songs (the ones I listened to) sound like a Prince rip off.

this thread is so fucking weird

y'all are pretty quick to denounce just about anybody's wrongdoing but people are upset that the media is criticizing him for recently working with a rapist director and collaborating with someone who openly supports a man who is destroying the lives of many? picking and choosing our outrage now?

also good for Pitchfork for telling people six other albums to listen to. dude doesn't need the publicity, and from the singles I heard it's just as mediocre as they're saying it to be. they should be encouraging people to listen to lesser known records that will be outshone by a huge release like this.

    run away with me Platinum

I just can't feel bad for JT
    [IMG]

he's just always seemed like kind of a prick, not just with Janet how he only wants to conveniently be tongue and cheek about being in NSYNC when he's not all "I'm a serious artist don't you dare mention the band that got me here"

Album is a meandering, boring mess. Jason put it best, it’s mind boggling to make a 66 min album without a single hook.

Third time through, and the back half of this album is stronger than I initially gave it credit for. Some combination of being worn out by so much mediocre ish on the front half and these lyrics might have blocked me from appreciating a song like “Breeze Off The Pond”.
