While I know what you're saying, something about this sounds wrong to me. Who is anyone to tell an artist what they "should" sound like based on the arbitrary location of their birth?

 

I listened to it last night when it went up on Apple Music and my intital reaction was: “Okay, this is different, this is cool” but I wasn’t in love with it and I surely wasn’t sold on him saying “haters gonna say it’s fake” over and over. I really was intrieguted by the end of the song and to hear what it will lead into on the album. I listened to it again this morning and I enjoyed it a bit more overall. With Suit & Tie I liked it the first time I heard it, I liked it more over time but it was never my favorite off of that project or even close.

Also… I’m not unsure how this will do as a first single, if it is? Maybe I would’ve felt differently if this wasn’t the first song I heard off the project and was the first song on the album when it released. I’m still very excited and now more than ever curious to see what else is in store for us.

 

Listening to this a lot as I work today.

It gets me to do my desk chair shoulder dance / head bob without fail.

Good sign.

 

I just watched the video. That was hilarious and fun. I enjoyed the video quite a bit. Andddd I liked the song even more on a third listen.

If you know what I'm saying, why are you arguing with me? I'm responding to someone's claim that he's being somehow "inauthentic", when most of the initial promo around this album has repeatedly stressed that it was inspired by where he's from. I couldn't care less if he makes a space jazz album.

 

Flannel is the color of his energy.

Well, I didn't say he'd be on there. But also it's not like he posts about every artist he's looking forward to? Whatever though, glad I have one less hesitance with this album

 

I can't get the wobble out of my head it's taking over.

And I can't stop thinking about what the hell this album is actually going to sound like. I'm not sure I've ever been more curious about what the overall sound of an album will turn out to be, so his strategy here has worked very well, at least on me.

 

Ok, this time when I listened to it, as JT sings:

“What are you gonna do with all that meat? Cooking up a mean serving”

All I could think of was Carl Weathers in AD singing this and asking if he was cooking up a mean stew.

It might be time for me to step away for a bit.

 

This just made a good song even better.

I’ll be honest though it didn’t floor me like Suit & Tie.

Plus I prefer all the imagery around that album too. This I have no idea what’s going on from the country imagery to the weird music video. Maybe it will all tie in as the next videos come?

It’s definietly playing on the FL/SS sound.

I like that record more than most people. I just skip the first 2 songs and enjoy the rest
