Based on what I've heard about that scene so far, sounds like Zack probably should've run that moment past Deborah a couple more times & see if she thought Flash checking out a vulnerable woman while saving her would feel cute or gross af.

lmao saying the dude sucks because he rode a wave of toxic fandom to reach the point where he was allowed to make this new version of Justice League isn’t a “moral crusade”, it’s a fact. We can all hate him because he’s a bad filmmaker and also recognize that despite doing some good things outside of his movies he also does some bad things too. I promise it’s not going to hurt any person here individually, much less Snyder himself, who is a multimillionaire and could care less whether I criticize him or someone else defends him. He doesn’t need regular people on the internet who don’t know him going to bat for him and vouching for his character.

  3. It's a Snyder film, so I really shouldn't be too surprised - but regardless, I am surprised at the number of people just gushing over this movie. If I hear the world "masterpiece" used to describe this one more time... Twitter and YouTube are crazy places haha.

I completely understand not loving the theatrical version, but to think that this movie should actually be 4 hours long seems crazy to me. At least that movie was considerate and stayed under 2 hours. This whole story could easily be condensed into 2-2.5 hours by cutting out all the unnecessary fat. The extra time with Cyborg, Flash and Aquaman, to me, didn't really add to the narrative of Steppenwolf coming to Earth to retrieve the motherboxes. This is essentially a very simplistic story that spends way, way too much time bouncing around to different subplots and expository montages.

Why are you still in this thread? Honestly. You clearly hate anything Zack Snyder does. You clearly hate everything about this movie. You don’t appear to even be “hate” watching it and discussing the new parts. What reason do you have to be in this thread other than constantly posting the same shit over and over about how much you hate Zack Snyder

The only person on this site who's actually spent time with him (on the BvS set) has vouched for his character, too.

But, I wasn't really expecting your obstinate, chronically-wrong-&-self-righteous-about-it ass to get it, lol, so whatever. Carry on, dude.

  6. Just finished it.

This didn’t need to be 4 hours. That’s my biggest takeaway.

  9. Not sure if you were referring to me or the post just above mine - Even so, I probably did complain about the movie a bit more than needed considering no one made me sit down for 4 hours to watch this thing haha.

Snyder has the distinction of being someone I think is a truly, spectacularly awful filmmaker, while being allowed to work on properties and characters that I truly care about.

If he was working on, say, Iron Man, I would give zero shits about his hackery.

But he did Watchmen and Superman and the Justice League. So, my hatred for him is outsized and he gets to live rent free in my head.

At least now that this sorry chapter in movie history has mercifully been closed we can all look forward to the actual good content coming our way, namely The Batman, The Suicide Squad, Aquaman 2, and Shazam 2.

The runtime of this gave me the same type of feelings as watching Peter Jackson's Hobbit movies, where I wish they had slightly less clout in regards to runtimes. They desperately need someone to give them a hard runtime limit and then actually make them stick to it. I can't figure out why WB figured it made more sense to have Joss Whedon come in and do such extensive reshoots versus just chopping the runtime on this down to something more manageable.

At the time, it made perfect sense. Whedon was viewed as a money making machine and public perception was largely against the Snyderverse DCEU.

I remember the news that Whedon was taking over being warmly received.

“#ComicsGate is pissed at Zack on the day the ‘Snyder Cut’ is released” is a development I didn’t see coming. I hope EVS, Malin, & the rest of this crew [redacted].

It just seems like a wildly expensive solution to a problem where there have to be several much more affordable options for course correction. SOLO struck me the same way. The movie you were making wasn't coming out that great, so you bring a different filmmaker on to now reshoot the entire thing quickly but also very expensively, under even more of a crunch than before, thus putting everyone under the gun and rushing them even moreso than they normally would be, which is already usually pretty rushed. All for a pretty mediocre movie, which is probably what you had in the first place.

After already sinking $200 million plus into a project and having basically completing principal photography, I feel like you should try to work with the material you have as much as possible.

Solo actually turned out solid though. Not as good as it would've been under Lord & Miller, but way better than it had any right to be. And way better than OG Justice League too.

The thinking was that the movie Snyder had shot was a sure-fire money loser, hence why it switched publicly from "Whedon is just finishing up the movie" to "Whedon is substantially reshooting the film", to try and make it seem more like Whedon's film (which on the basis of his last two superhero films should be a resounding success).

If I recall correctly the issues on Solo were less to do with the direction of the film and more to do with the way the film was being shot right? Something about them shooting lots of improv and Laurence Kasdan getting pissy they weren't shooting the script as written.

I agree Solo was pretty solid. I guess I was just ruminating more from a business perspective that so many of these productions seem so badly mismanaged.

Yeah Kasdan threw a fit because they weren't sticking exactly to his script. But the rumors at the time were also that either Kennedy or some other higher ups at Lucasfilm/Disney weren't happy that they were making it into more of a comedy than they wanted it to be. Which, I mean, why else do you hire two of the premiere comedy directors working today if not to make a funny movie.

Either way, they were doing what they were ostensibly hired to do, and then people with more clout than them got mad about it, and so they walked.

Pretty much everything about the Disney Star Wars content has been mismanaged, I definitely agree there. It's a miracle that we managed to get something actually transcendent out of it all (The Last Jedi).

I suppose if they gave Snyder some hard mandates that he was blatantly ignoring - like the two hour runtime thing - then the situation makes slightly more sense. It just seemed to me like the decision that you didn't like Snyder's take on this should have been made at some point earlier in the process before he made two and five eighths very expensive films as the godfather of your cinematic universe.

By all accounts it sounds like WB took advantage of Snyder's personal tragedy and used it as an opportunity to re-make the movie with a more bankable director without Snyder's input. Like I don't think they would've done it if his daughter hadn't passed and he hadn't then had to step away. It was a pretty scummy thing they did, in hindsight.
