Finally saw this. It DEFINITELY would have been better as an Arthur Clownman movie. I kinda just rolled my eyes when we followed that guy as he goes to murder the Waynes. And yeah every negative thing thats been said about this movie I pretty much agreed with. Super self serious and honestly I'm just dumbfounded that this is being highly praised. Cinematography was tight tho I'll give it that.

 

100% (other than joker being great of course)

 

I was honestly in awe of the Spider-Man dance scene and thought it was some sort of joke screening I was at.

 

The SM3 dance sequence is one of the most misunderstood scenes in movie history. People don’t have to like it, but almost no one who hates it is actually reading it right

 

I'll defend the SM3 dance scene as both such a laughably awkward moment in an already messy movie but also such a significant thematic moment for Peter's arc to the death

 

The SM3 dance sequence is one of the worst things ever put to film.

 

As much as I loved the film... A sequel is a bad idea imo

And uh you know, Phillips’ track record with sequels hasn’t been great lol

Are we at the point where people get nostalgic for Spiderman 3?

 

I'll be first in line to say the Raimi trilogy is pretty overrated as a whole and a lot of flaws get passed over because of it basically being among the first "good" Marvel movies (along with the first two X-Men movies), but the dance scene is such a pivotal part of the movie. It's ridiculous and Peter looks like a total tool, but that's kind of the point. That is 100% what someone like Peter would think is "cool", and so that's what he acts like. The symbiote is making him overly cocky and arrogant, and that's exemplified in that scene. Plus it coming right on the heels of him flinging a bomb at his once best friend's face shows how far gone he is. I guarantee that scene in a better paced movie without so many dangling plot threads would have been received SO much better.

Also the fact that from his perspective there's definitely no music makes it one of the funniest scenes in any superhero movie and that alone makes it a necessary part of the movie

 

When I said the other day that Far From Home is my least favorite Spider-Man film, my brother was horrified & fixated on Spider-Man 3.

Which, yes, is more enjoyable than Far From Home, absolutely.

 

Spider-Man 3 is not a good movie. But the dancing is the least of its issues. A lot of people hate the dance sequences for having the intended effect.

 

This clown thread is not a footloose thread with all this anti-dancing sentiment

 

Summer 2007 was when I broke off from mainstream cinema because it just started rotting my brain. It was after my first year of college, so I had read a book or two, and being assaulted by Pirates of the Caribbean 3, Spiderman 3, and Beowulf just left me exhausted.

Of all the galaxy-brained takes I’ve read in this thread, “the Spider-Man 3 dance scene is actually just misunderstood” is the most insane. Go rewatch that movie. It’s a terrible, nonsense scene in a terrible, nonsense movie.

 

Nathan is right though. It’s constantly misunderstood.

 

Unless we’re lumping the two together, the Spider-Man 3 dance scene is far more defendable than the following club scene. But I love it ironically for Peter playing the piano, “Now dig on this,” and the way his jacket opens with the force of a Cat 5 hurricane.

 

I thought this was...good? I guess I’m not getting the strong responses one way or another. Acting and cinematography are great. Dialogue isn’t as much. Social commentary is okay, but it’s deeper when it just shows what it’s trying to say. I don’t think it says anything particularly deep beyond being a reflection of how so many people in our society are feeling right now. Honestly, if you somehow removed the dialogue entirely, and removed the entire Wayne subplot, I think it would have been fantastic. As it is, I thought it was fine.

 

Spider-Man 3 dance is better than Arthur Clownman’s dance just for the fact that it isn’t scored by the pedo song

 

Speaking of the song, I heard it many times played by high school bands at a playoff football game this weekend. And in fact I still hear it at many sporting events.
