Blockbusters are all ages stuff. Quentin Tarantino is not that.

Why every movie is a sequel or reboot and if Armageddon or ET or whatever could happen again today

Then would you not count Terminator as a blockbuster? Cause I would

As theater attendance falls it is interesting to examine the evolution of the blockbuster, traditionally the movies that get the most in-theater viewers. Honestly, they used to be better, and they used to not all be the same superhero/reboot/sequel fare so their lifespan was longer. There’s a lot to Scorsese’s point about how a Hitchcock movie itself used to be an event, attended the way people attend franchise movies now, and how current franchise movies are largely creatively complacent, nothing about them pushes the medium forward or are full of artistic vision the way previous blockbusters like Jaws and Star Wars did and were, or the way auteur event filmmakers like Hitchcock, Kubrick, and others were. Yes, there’s more content than ever, and the options for consuming entertainment outside of theaters are vast. But the growing influence of Disney/Marvel/Star Wars/superhero movies seems to have legitimately choked much of the art out of what most people consume when they go to the movies

I think that’s just the progression of art colliding with money. There’s plenty of “basic” stuff that’ll make millions/billions but there’s a lot of new and interesting artists out there doing original and interesting stuff. Even kids movies with Pixar or whatever.

The idea of movie stars is also kinda dead

Everyone knows Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone but they can't approach 90s Julia Roberts fame

Most of Denis Villanueve’s movies are originals and have had great critical reception. And a few of them made $80-$200 million at the box office as well.

Yes. I saw them as a kid. I think a lot of other people did. I specifically remember going to see Terminator 3 with an older cousin while we were on a family vacation and the ticket lady being iffy about selling to him.

R-rating does not necessarily mean kids won't see it, just like a PG-13 rating doesn't mean kids want to see it.

I think Terminator 3 was my first R rated movie in theaters.

10 a.m. Saturday movies were a family tradition for a few years at the turn of the century before we moved. I saw a lot of stuff that I probably shouldn't have. I specifically remember Analyze This, Fight Club, Deep Blue Sea, Requiem for a Dream, Final Destination, Scary Movie, Man on the Moon, Three Kings, and Saving Private Ryan. Still, the movie that scarred me the most from that era was Wild Wild West.

Seeing Will Smith’s testicles in a kids movie will do that to ya

I don’t remember what the first R movie I saw in theaters was, but I do remember that the first R-rated movie I ever saw was Air Force One with Harrison Ford lol

And yes, that movie is much better than Clownman.

The first that I paid for after I turned 17 was Watchmen but the first I saw in theaters ever? No idea.

It’s definitely the weakest of that era of Ferrell’s career.
