...but also I love both versions of Finch so I'm KIND OF just being a contrarian because I knew someone would agree.

seeing that a demo like 'stop' ended up on a major release, my fingers are crossed that the band re-records 'big cars' and puts it on the next album.

I’m still curious what they did with the extra songs they had from Surviving. Do those songs get vaulted, held over for another release? We know one song was was finished because there was video done about the production of the song. I can’t remember if they released 10 out of 15 or I some of those 15 included things like The Party Hard cover. Just surprised they didn’t put them out unless they were unhappy or wanted to hold onto them.

That doesn’t really match their release history though. There could be other reasons, like they had plans to do an EP or deluxe release. Other bands like Thrice withheld songs from Palms recorded during the same session to later release the Deeper Wells EP.

Do we know specifically? Intentions and resources may have also shifted towards doing the Phoenix Sessions. I’d curious to know. Having a producer or engineer talk about about their work on a track that was never released has always peaked my curiosity about these potential songs. Since the just randomly dropped half heart/love never prior to Surviving you couldn’t rule out them just randomly dropping new material again.

  11. We mention this a lot, but it's crazy that Jimmy Eat World hasn't released a b-sides album.

So many great songs that didn’t make it onto albums that were already great.

Damage and Integrity Blues each has less bsides than what was normal for them before, which may be more of a sign of the times. I’m still surprised they didn’t have an original, or reworked version of Half Heart with better production as bside. It’s just weird knowing other songs exist. And I get maybe the holding a song back thing, by stylistically if you hold onto a completed song it may not fit as well as the album era it was wrote it. It’s not like saving a demo or idea that didn’t get full realized.

their deluxe versions are always so jam-packed with bonus stuff that you could make multiple great b-sides albums from them, to be fair

How many bands are forced to make a decision to release an album, deluxe version and an EP because they have too many good to great songs in an album era?

Thanks. I don’t why anyone wouldn’t want to hear the songs if they are done and produced to the quality of Surviving.

Imagine they just chose to release Futures and decided not to release the songs that make up Stay On My Side Tonight and we knew they existed.

  25. or if they didn't release "23" but we knew it existed.

if the musician or band doesn't believe in or connect with the song though, they probably won't release it, and maybe that's for the best. because imagine if you released a song you hate but fans beg for you to play it every night. that would be kind of a bummer for the band. i'm sure it's happened before though. i've always wondered if one of my favorite bands has ever put a song on their album that one member of the band hates and just lost when the majority of the band voted to keep it.

i do love the idea of b-side albums though. they're unofficial albums where bands can just unload shit they didn't want on albums but they feel are decent enough to release to their fans. and there's no pressure for them to play the songs live or anything. it's just 100% there for the big fans that may be curious what's on the cutting room floor or whatever.
