I think you have it right, although the Jimmy Eat World stans will likely argue that Static Prevails should be higher. My order:

I want to point out that while Surviving is low on all of our lists, that doesn't make it bad. I definitely like it.

 

Man......Chase This Light was the first of their albums which I felt had some outright clunkers (like "Carry You").

Same here. CTL was the first album of theirs that I didn't love from front to back instantly, and honestly, they never recovered since then (IN MY OPINION!) But yeah, they have the 4 perfect albums, and then everything after that is good to great, and that's fine. But I really only listen to Static, Clarity, BA, and Futures. I don't revisit the "new" albums very often at all.

Carry You is a BANGER though. My weak spots on CTL are Electable and Feeling Lucky.

 

Electable is the only one I remember loving on first listen haha.

haha yeah, when i first heard CTL when it came out, i remember loving "electable" because the chorus was so catchy.

 

Not insane at all. I'm in the same boat and have absolutely no affinity for Clarity. But I do appreciate that it's an important record for many of their fans.

 

It is a catchy chorus for sure. I'm trying to think of what other CTL songs I think would appeal to a big Static fan. Maybe Firefight?

Just listened to it. It's fine. haha. The outro that fades out is an awesome part though.

I should listen to this whole album. I probably haven't listened to it front to back in over 10 years, easy. I'll post my hot take CTL ranking when I'm done, haha.

 

Haha only do it if you want to! Gotta Be Somebody's Blues definitely has some Futures/Clarity energy as well, imo

I wasn't going to rank albums, but I was thinking of poking my head in just to say that I think Damage is a better album than Surviving, but you did the dirty work for me here.

 

Sieving sounds way better production wise. I think that’s the knock on Damage (and it’s a less robust era of songs for them in comparison to previous albums).

 

Oh yeah Surviving sounds better, but like @sophos34 was saying with Invented, Damage was the record that came out senior year for me haha

my top 5 all have a place in my top 20 favorite albums of all time. most would make the top 10 to be honest. this is by far my favorite band of all time and my immediate answer when asked who my favorite band is. no other band has had the impact they have, no other band has literally shaped the very core of who I am and who I feel like I am than this band. I couldn’t even begin to put into words what they mean to me and how they’ve affected my life.
